A Florida girl was awarded 35,000 dollars after suing the city. A police officer found she and her boyfriend in a parked car and ordered them out of the car. He made the girl perform jumping jacks while topless, and shone his flashlight on her as she performed the jumping jacks. The officer was later fired and placed on probation for two years. He was also made to write the girl a letter of apology. What are your thoughts on this incident?

I heard about this story earlier, but i did not hear about the letter of apology part. I'm glad that they made him do that, but I hope that he was truly sorry! *laugh* This incident was truly reprehensible. I can't believe that an officer of the law would stoop so low as to abuse his power in that way. I can't imagine how he thought that he was going to get away with it, either. I'm glad that those girls are getting some monetary compensation, but nothing is going to take away the humiliation that they received.

Yes, and to think, we teach children from a young age that they can trust the police. Honestly, it is getting to where you can't trust anyone!

OMG is there such a policeman? I thought policeman are supposed to help people.. and catch the bad guys etc? It is for certain that the police get the girl to perform jumping jacks topless for his own pleasure.. it is very disgusting.. it degrades the whole police profession .. while I know most of the police are trying to make good on their profession.. trying to help people etc.. but some police such as this one will make police man a bad image.. especially for this girl..

You got me laughing. I never heard that one. Well, he got what he deserved, and I am sure she is quite happy with the settlement for his actions.

It just goest to show you there are weirdos everywhere. Bad enough anyone would do that but it really irks me when it's an authority figure that pulls that crap. And what an absuure thing to do ! Did he think that they wouldn't say anything. The cop must be a real whack job. I would say "serious isssues" at the least.

How can you trust police when you get ones like this. I am glad he was fired and put on probabtion for 2 years. I am also glad that he had to write a letter of apology, but I wonder if this is really enough. That poor girl was humiliated by someone she should have been able to trust. You raise your children by saying that the police are good people and I am sure that most of them are, but when you hear of stories like this, it does make you wonder.

OH MY! That is a blatant misuse of his position of authority! I am glad this girl reported this incident and the police took her seriously and investigated and this guy is gone. I hope he has learned his lesson...that is just ridiculous! what did he think he was doing? was he trying to "punish" and embarass her or was it for his own pleasure? It's so sad that when I was little, my parents always said if I get lost to go find someone in a uniform like a store clerk or a policeman or fireman and you can't even tell your children that anymore

I am glad that she got the money as a compensesion. Such kind of plice officers should not be there in the police department. Police parsons are mostly there to protect people, not to harash them.

Although I agree that it was a misuse of his authority, but why in the world was the girl topless in her car no less. Unless I am misinterpreting the news story. In my thinking the girl shouldn't have been topless to begin with out in public. It's just something I will never understand I guess.

Oh my gosh! This cop should never be able to hold a public job again. A letter of apology is not enough. I am not one to encourage sueing but this gal deserved the money. She will never forget what he did to her. That is sad!

i personally think that police officer should never be allowed back in the police department. he is not suppose to do that and it is a disgrace for people to do that they are the ones who are protecting us. I think he should have been in jail for some time for sexually harasement. also they should have sued the department for millions not $35000. that is nothing to the humilation that she and the boyfriend received

There should be a new rule that although police officers have certain authority, they need to have limits too. Now that the perv got what's coming to him, law enforcement should learn of this worst-case scenario and make a new rule that no police officer has singular authority over another, or on innocent citizens like that humiliated girl.
I just hope that girl uses her new court-awarded money responsibly.

The police officer got what he deserved....such kind of people should not be given such jobs....they simply dont deserve it......those who cannot respect the public and serve them properly should be removed from their duty.........it was absolutely shameful and disgusting what the police officer did.

Wow, this is an incredible violation of the rights that policemen have over citizens. Investigating the parked car was fine, with tact, but to make her do jumping jacks is ludacris. Such a violation SHOULD have resulted in his punishment. Im glad he wrote a letter, but just imagine how embarassing the letter must have been for BOTH parties.
At least the event was discovered and taken care of!

I should be surprised but you know, I'm not. At the end of the day they are human but you'd think he could maintain himself until the end of his work shift. If he wants to see bouncing you know whats, there are places for that!

Who are children to trust if we can't even be comfortable as parents to send them to the police. There is no excuse for his actions and he should have gotten a worse punishment than just getting fired. Why would he embarras her like that other than to get off on it. Does anybody have morals anymore.

This is really a great news to know about. I think that this would teach lessons to all such policemen who use their stauts to exploit others in order to fulfil thier unright desires.
We all always take policemen to be our friends our helpers so we can't afford such incidents as this would lift people's faith from such system.

Sounds like the police officer got what he deserved. That was such an abuse of power it is almost dumbfounding. Ican't believe that any police officer could feel he would get away with that. I sure hope he enjoyed the show, because the price was obviously very steep.
