That is a really good question! ^_^ The problem for me is that one reason that I went to a lot of free concerts around here (back when I was really into doing that) was because I didn't really hvae the money to pay for things like concerts. So I didn't have money for souvenirs, either. I did buy a couple of things at one concert of an artist that I really loved, but I would have tried to do that either way. So for me, the cost of the concert really wasn't what was stopping me or encouraging me to buy other things. It's just a lack of funding! *laugh*

Good point, lot's of people go to free concerts because they can't afford to pay. Besides that they make the souveniers so darn expensive that even when the concert is free you still can't afford them..lol I'm not a big souvenier buyer anyway I live in the land of "lack of funding". So it doesn't matter how much money they charge..hehhe

Yeah, and forget about refreshments. When you get kids that even makes it worse with sitter payments.

When I read saw this I was thinking about how great it would be if concerts were free. Oh how I used to love to go to concerts. I went to many free ones. Then my mind began to wander down memory lane...thinking about all the fun, THE CROWDS, and music. Welll as soon as I got to that crowd part... I quickly changed my mind. I think the last concert I would go to would be a free one. Not the little town concerts those are different. I go to those all the time. But can you imaging the crowd there would be if arists played free concerts. Half the people wouldn't even be able to get close enough to buy a souvenier if they wanted to...lol
So no I don't think I would buy more souveniers. I think that lower cost concerts would probably help increase souvenier sales, or include a very small souvenier in the cost of the ticket, may be an idea. That would get more people to pay attention to the souveniers for sale.

The crowds would be crazy. That would mean more souvinier sales.

I'd love concerts to be chaper, but I can't see how they could be free when you think how expensive they are to stage, most cost literally thousands and thousands to put on, even small scale ones still have staff, venue and electricity to pay for. Merchandise is often over priced as well though, I do resent how much a cheap tshirt costs at a gig.

The increased attendance would mean more sales for stuff.

More then likely I would. The cost of tickets though is so much that trying to buy those and souveniers is a bit hard for most people. I know here tickets can run anywhere from $25 upwards to $125 for fair seats not even great seats. It can be very hard to come up with money for seats and souveniers, this becomes even harder if it's something the whole family is going to.

I agree that concerts are way overpriced. I don't how people go to so many. Especially young people with no jobs. They must have wonderful parents.

Nope. I would muse the money I saved and deposit it in my savings account.

I like that attitude. That is how wealthy people get and stay that way.

Their are a lot of free concerts around here but mostly these are the little bands around and they usualy don't sell any souveniers or bandmarchs.
If a big band like Jet or Oasis (not the biggest but still big) would get around here for nothing I would definitely buy a T-shirt, but not everyone would so that wouldn't make enough money..

If concerts were free i might actually be able to attend one in my life :P i'd have to travel to go to one, so whatever the concert ticket price is plus admission. oh my goodness. i'd ahve to give up eating for a month or two to be able to go. i would go if concerts were free, i would buy t shirts, and posters, and whatever else they sell that i could afford to get.
