The simplest and the softest of musical insturments is a Flute. When one thinks of what this little piece of bamboo can produce it is amazing. i am myself a flutist. The Flute has its history in ancient India. Flute was introduced to the world from India as is Chess and kabaddi. The flute is the divine instrument of Lord Krishna who entices damsels know as gopikas by his sweet music.
Please add up more information to what i have already added. Let this thread grow sweetly just like the music from the instrument itself.

I myself play piano and violin. As far as I know there are two kinds-Bansi which is held sideways and air is blown very softly ,and the other type is bansuri which is held straight while playing and the air is blown at the tip of the instrument.

The flute has nine wind holes in it. The first one is for blowing air into it using your lips and the last one for the air to come out. Rest of the seven are taken up by the fingers where different combined position of the finger produces beautiful and soothing music. Enjoy listening to music
