Where's the best place to stay for a long weekend in New York?

I am planning to whisk my partner away for a long weekend on her 40th, but have no idea where is best to stay. I'd like four star, close to all the sights. Any thoughts would be great! Thanks.

Dont share your bad experience with others and for sure dont advice them where to stay, if u couldnt be lucky to get a better place.:P
