I am currently taking tamoxifen for the prevention of a breast cancer recurrence. Tamoxifen is prescribed for women who have an estrogen positive cancer - or in simpler terms their tumors feed and live off of the hormone estrogen. In premenopausal women tamoxifen works to help prevent tumor growth. In menopausal women other drugs or aromatase inhibitors like Arimidex can be used.
Has anyone else taken Tamoxifen? I have been on it a year now and just last month began menstruating again. Some women will not menstruate, or will have irregular or heavy periods. Every person reacts differently. Other than my period starting again (It had stopped while I was taking chemo) I have not had any other side effects or problems.
I think Tamoxifen is a wonderful discovery and a useful tool in reducing the chance of recurrence. Its importance is right up there with chemotherapy or other cancer treatments.

I took tamoxifen for 10 months after after my chemo, but couldn't handle the side effects so I stopped at that point. Being premenopausal, we are in a compeletely different boat, I had periods and hot flashes at the same time, ugh! I'm glad that you are not having any other side effects and can take tamoxifen successfully. :)

Hey Lisalock, thanks for commenting!
I have talked to others who had many problems with side effects also, It seems to be so hit or miss, you dont know who your body will react until you take it!
I hope to see you around the site!
