Who would you save?

This question was asked on Oprah a few years ago, and I thought the answers were rather interesting. If you and your family were on a boat and it tipped over and everyone was drowning, who would you save? You can only save one or the other, would it be your child(ren) or your spouse? Just so you know, the results were that the majority of women chose their children and the majority of men chose their significant other. I'd have to be in this position and thankfully it'll never happen to me as my boyfriend can swim, but I'd chose my children.

I would definitely choose my child..My ex knows how to swim anyway, but wait i cant swim too.so the question should be,who will my ex save?me or our child.for sure he will save my daughter first.which i will gratefully accept.

oh! dear I asked this question to one guy and he replied without thinking :"the boat" I really had a good laugh but then thought may be it would be worth saving the bpoat to rescue everyone. I think I will still choose my kids over anyone.

I love my significant other more than anything in the world but my children will always be first. Its the same for him...our kids come first in our lives no matter what. THANK goodness though my fiance has a fear of boats...we wont ever be doing anything like this haha

I am in complete agreement. Most women if you harm their child you have a tiger by the tail. They will fight no matter what to defend their child. One women I know said if you hurt my child you hurt me. The bond is very strong between a child and their mom. I think it is because as the baby grows inside the mom they are already bonding together.

i wuld defintaly save my daughter first or children f we have more! its weird that this discussion was brought up, i have had thoughts on almost this exact thing..the whole time the hurricane katrina and the tsunami else where i had had the same recurring dream. I was in the middle of the beach standing up against a plam tree, in one arm was my 5 year old daughter and on the other arm was my 5 year old nephew. the wind was blowing and i was trying so hard to hold onto both of them but the tree was smooshing me i couldnt hold on much longer. next thing i new a wave was coming i screamed NO and then woke up. I was freakig out. I love my daughter more than life itself as with my nephew e is truely like a son to me, i watched him daily everyday from the time he was 2 weeks old until he was 4 everyday from 7am- 5pm and at nite on the weekends. hes my nepwhew i love him yes but i love him like a son. I could never chose betweent he two of them! i pray that i will never be in that predciment!

Well I don't actually have to worry about this ever happening as I refuse to get on a boat . But if it did happen I would save whoever was closest to the boat . There are a bunch of us and I can't swim so I would only be able to save whoever was closest to me in the boat and hope that whoever I got in would be able to help me save the rest of the family .

Thanks for your response. I would be a horrible situation to find ourselves in and hopefully none of us ever have to worry about this happening.

Swiming becomes essential. Generally, I would have made my wife learnt before such eventuality. Taking this into consideration, I will save one of my children and my wife would save another. Every is saved ( nowdays nobody has more than two children).

I would save the one that needed me the most at the time. If I had to choose between my boys, I would just go down with the boat.

I would definitely choose to save my children, and I would expect my husband to do the same. My husband and I already have an "unspoken" agreement that the kids come first, no matter what. I know that my husband would resent me if I saved him and let our children die. Even if he wouldn't, I would still not be able to resist my maternal instinct to protect my children.

If I could only save one it would be my son. My husband can swim so hopefully he could make it out alive. My son is only 11 months so I would definitely try to save him as there is no way he would know how to swim and make it out alive. If I could choose both I would cause I wouldn't want my husband to drown either.

I am a mother so I would choose to save my daughter. I could not live with myself if I had the chance to save my daughter and didn't take it. My husband, I hope would save her too, because I could not live knowing he chose to save me when he could have saved her.

Gosh, that's a really hard dilema, as I don't have a partner I guess it's not that hard for me as it would be my daughter everytime and I would pick her over my brother and my mother too! Sounds harsh but my mother is way into her 70's and has lived her life now, my brother has no dependants and I rarely see him either, so it would be my daughter everytime!
