Have you ever written (or received) a Love Letter?

I've never written one but I have received a couple and, although it was a long time ago, I still have them. It occurs to me that with email and text messaging replacing letter writing nowadays does that mean an end to love letters too? Does an email declaring undying love have the same effect?

To be honest with you. In high school I had a MAJOR MAJOR 3 year crush on this one guy. Well the second year of my crush, my junior year (began in sophmore year) I wrote this HUGE two paged hand written letter declaring all about him I found attractive. Dont get too dirty, it was a chrsitian school and I'm a christian. But I wrote all these things about his looks, smell, what he does (he played ping pong and guitar, etc). Then I gave it to him! I GAVE IT TO HIM! He ended up telling me thank you but he had a girlfriend. I never found out if he did have one. You see he wasnt super cute to most people and I didnt see him as having a girlfriend yet or at all. But who knows. I found him recenty on myspace and tried to add him as a friend. He knew I liked him of course the rest of my high school days. He even was nice enough to take a picture WITH me our last night together grad night! I still have it in my scrapbook I made from high school senior year! Ah! I look back now and realize it was a mistake to give it to him. But it took guts for sure. My cousin who helped look it over DIDNT believe I'd do it. It was pretty funny me shy girl give guy I like a love letter! I often wonder if he still has it and if I hadnt given it to him but showed I liked him another way if I'd had a chance to date him or it was meant to never be. Oh well. The things we do when we are young! (15 at the time!)

Oh bless - but it DID take guts to give it to him. Good for you! Actually, although I said I had never written a love letter I did write a few to this guy I also had a massive crush on in school. I never gave any of them to him - thank goodness because I cringe now when I think of the stuff that was in them. Like you there wasn't anything "dirty" in them but I really poured out my heart and soul and he really wasn't the type that would have appreciated it! My crush lasted for a couple of years and, ironically, we actually did start dating when we were 16 - it lasted about 2 weeks before I dumped him! As the saying goes .. be careful what you wish for because you just might get it! Thanks for your response.

i think letters have a more romantic more than say emails and text messages. there so much more traditional and you know someones taken the time out to write it rather than a 30 second text. me and my boyfriend who's in the army write letters to each other to keep up our long distance relationship and recieving 1 always cheers me up.

Yes - I suppose if your partner is in the armed services and posted overseas or whatever you probably will write letters more often than the average person. Thanks for your response.

I had written some love letters with some poetry from my own, long long time ago, still in these days the feeling rules and if someone love why not send an love email instead of a traditional love letter? The love is in the air so in paper or in a email it brings that loving feeling.

Do you really think it would be as effective by email though? I'm not sure.

I've written some, and received one or two, although that was years ago. An e-mail does not have the same effect. You can put your soul into a handwritten letter. Sadly, my keyboard has no soul.

I don't think an email would be as effective. In fact I think it would be a little weird!
