I am always needing to set back a few bucks for a rainy day. Maybe for emergency's or my medicines or the kids school pictures or field trip, ballgames whatever. When I do someone almost always finds it. I hear someone holler "look what I found' or "oh look, did you know you had this?" and I know what has happened. So far the best I have found is inside a picture frame hanging on the wall. That one has worked so far. Any ideas?

I hide my extra money in an old coffee container under the sink with the rest of my cleaning supplies-NO ONE except me ever thinks to clean anything, so I have no fear that they will look under there and find it. Good luck-isn't life crazy, having to hide money on ourselves.

I like that idea. How about just starting a savings account in a bank that the rest of your family does not use? That way, you are getting paid while also hiding it from others. What about a safe deposit box in a bank, of course that will not pay interest, though. Good luck.

yes actually, i do have a plce for you to hide your extra spending money and the only way someone will find it is if you tell them..
noone really thinks to look in your floor vents. i live in a mobile home and I have a very small drawsting bag and I have money in it with the string wrapped around a nail. when the air or heat it is in it does not affect it in any way.you can do it if you have vents on the wall as well. take the vernt off and place a nail below on the inside and wrap the string around the nail
my secret is out.
hope you can use the idea

That is such an awesome idea! I am going to look for a loose air vent and see if it will work for me. I know exactly which one I will look at first. There is an air vent behind the door in the unused bathroom that I use as a dressing room off the bedroom. Nobody goes in there except me.
Isn't it amazing the interesting things people can think of?

Best way is to start a small savings account at a bank with a debit card. This way you can withdraw money from an ATM. You will also find it lasts longer since you tend to spend less if you have to go a little out of your way to get it.
If this is not feasible where you live put your money in a container and place it in the farthest corner of your freezer.

I agree with you...Further, you may invest it to have some extra in return that may boost your preparadeness for the uncertain future... if you like just hide your money and let it sleep, you may consider putting it at the back of the wall-clock.

I hide stuff in a tampon box in my underwear drawer. I am sure that my husband and stepson would never touch the box let alone open it! Just in case they do pick up the box, I leave some of the tampons in it for weight. Nothing has ever gone missing from the box. Maybe if you have girls, it wouldn't be as secure a hiding place.

This tampon suggestion was going to be my suggestion. Many years ago when I drove cross country once by myself, I hid all of my travellers checks in the tampon box in my toiletries. It was a lifesaver when I lost my billfold, as I only had about ten dollars in the billfold, and a couple of hundred in the car. The place I am hiding money right now is in my PayPal account, then hubby cannot sign up for any internet opportunities or autoships on it. It is a money market account and draws 5.02% interest. It is harder to access for a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread, though.

There are some good ideas here. I have hid money in my socks, encyclopedias, under mattress, old board games that nobody plays with anymore. I have also hid money in the hem of some drapes, that was a good spot. I also have had a hollowed out book. You can also make a jar. Get a jar, put a toilet paper roll on the inside. Place beans or rice around the tube to hide it. Secure it with tape. Then put a pretty piece of fabric on top, with a ribbon tied around it. Everyone thinks it a jar of beans.

You could find some pointers at the link below, this is one smart lady, she's started an interesting discussion about where ladies can hide money in the kitchen, here's the link:

Get yourself a zippered purse and put the money you wish to keep in it and then put it in your sock or underwear drawer. You should be the only one getting into those drawers. Then when you need it you will be able to access it while dressing and everything should work out.
My kids know better than to mess with my money I set aside.

But if you have a break-in the underwear and sock drawers are the first ones to be ransacked. Believe me I have been through it.

I've put mine in the freezer, in between your matresses, under the kitchen sink, tape it to the underneath of your dresser drawer....
But the best one I've found so far is in a can of Durkee's French Fried onions! LOL
Everyone always finds my "stash" too. I got tired of it...NOONE in my house like those onions, so I bought a can (ate all of them by myself) cleaned the can real good and now i have a good hiding spot for my money on the top shelf in my kitchen and noone knows it's there because they won't touch them, ha ha ha...It's been working for almost 5 months now and noone has even so much moved the can..so just find something your family really doesn't like, and use it! Good Luck!

If you have a pair of pants that you don't wear except for a special occasion use the pocket for a hiding place. That way they are in your drawer and no one else would probly think to go through your pants pockets of clean clothes. :)

I have a separate "rainy day" savings account. That way, no one can run off thinking they found "free" money around the house AND it earns interest. The best thing is, since it's in the bank and not just laying around under a mattress, or in a coffee can, it actually isn't very easy to spend... so it's grown to more than just a "treat" jar, and into a real rainy day account - for things like car repair, or home improvement projects!

First you may want to check where thieves are looking for money if they break in. Second make sure to keep your money in water and fire proof container.
Picture frame is first on thief list. Woman socks and underwear is second. Remember they also looking for you jewelry.
After you make it safe from thieves, think like you husband and your kids.
Laundry room is probably less visited by all.

There's always the trick from Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. She kept it in a small plastic container in the toilet (where you'd put the 2000 Flushes or something). That's the only one that I can think of.
As far as a place to keep it so you don't spend it, but have it if you need it.......I opened and ING Direct account online. You get more interest than a regular bank, and you tend to forget about it, so you don't think to withdraw money from there. It's been working well for me. I also did a hgh yield money market account from one of my credit card companies. THis way I'm saving money and won't just take it out for the hell of it.
