I've just come across a little information. Most of you know that you can read emphasis on the wrong words with text, making a simple sentence turn into a sarcastic or "mean" thing. When the writer truly didn't mean for it to be that way. Anyways. Everytime this happens, there is a person (or people) here that will give a negative rating simply because they didn't agree with your discussion.
The rating system shouldn't be used for, "Oh I don't agree with your option, I'll give you a negative rating." It shouldnt' be like that! This is Mylot. There are nearly 65 thousand people here. We are not ALL going to agree on everything. But, just because you type something that someone in Canada or US or anywhere else doesn't agree with, does that mean you deserve a negative rating?
Personally, the only time I will give a negative rating is when someone is obviously using the system for posts. I will NOT give a negative rating if there's a chance that this person simply didn't understand the discussion. I think there are "snakes in the grass" here in Mylot. Only giving negative ratings to bring other people down and themselves up. If there's someone with a 6 star, they are giving those with higher numbered stars a negative rating for no reason. I've seen it with my own eyes! Someone that said, "I don't think that's right. I'm giving you a negative rating."
Or they've said, "Your post sucked. I don't know why you have a 9 rating. I'm rating you negatively."
This is wrong, in my opinion. =/ But of course, this is my opinion! Lol

It is wrong that they are doing this. That isn't what the ratings were supposed to be used for and now they are abusing that also. It is sad that we cannot just post here, without being judged. As long as we are not cheating mylot, we should not be getting negative ratings. If we post something that ha nothing to do with he discussion it should be negative. I really pay no attention to the stars when I am picking a discussion to respond to or making friends.

I agree with your opinion here. I don't think the negative rating is for if you disagree with something someone is saying, although I think a lot of people do use it for that.
I have never given a negative, I just don't give a postive to people I don't agree with.

I agree with your opinion. It's simply not right to give a negative rating Just because you disagree.
If a post it well thought out, and is on topic. I usually give a positive rating.
The only people I ever negatively rate are those abusing the sysyem, or not really reading the post but rambling on, which in my opinion is still abuse, simply because they did not read the topic but just the title and assumed a heck of alot from it.

No you're not wrong at all. I was under the impression that this forum was for people to express their views. I was not aware that that view has to agree with the person creating the discussion.
Personally the only negative ratings I have assigned have been for spam answers, and those that really had nothing to do with the discussion. I would hope that everyone does this. If not the rating system is not going to work. And will cause more problems. And doesn't the kind of sites have ennough problems already?

i havent watched what ive said on here because i believe in freedom of speech. as you say not everyone is going to agree with others so i either dont reply for some reason or i will reply and fully put in what im thinking about "no holds bared" you could say. I am not too bothered about rating on here although i think it helps.
