They're big and ugly and carry disease. They reproduce like crazy and can take over your home. They're hard to kill. They can go without food for a month and even if you cut off its head, it would still run around the house for about a week.

Obviously you've never run into an American Cockroach, also known as a Palmetto bug. They are huge, as big as your thumb if not bigger. Some can fly. And even if you keep your house immaculate they will come in if they need a new home. Add to that they can bite, it's rare but they have been known to. Also cockroaches carry diseases and that makes many not like them. I'm not too fond of any bug that comes into my home but those things I hate and I admit I'm scared of, I get someone else to squish them.

I am not afraid of them but I don't like them. I guess because of the way they scamper across the room and also there is nothing "beautiful" about them. It's also a cultural response too - I guess we are told from a very young age (via commercials on tv etc) that they are something we want to get rid of.

I am an insectophobic. I'd rather spend a night with a snake inside a cage than having a cockroach in my room. I remember once I was in a trip with my friends and there was a cockroach on its back trying to get upright. My friend crushed him with his shoes and I was about to throw up. It was the most disgusting sound I've ever heard (the sound of crushing). YUCK.
