Not your ordinary Super Bowl question...

Ok, I think most people enjoy the Super Bowl for one of two reasons ... the game itself (they cheer for one of the teams, they cheer against one of the teams, they love the game of football, etc.) or they're in it for the commericals (they can remember during which Super Bowl the Budweiser frogs were birthed, they know who won every Bud Bowl ever played, etc.) But, I think that I watch and love the Super Bowl because of the food. Chips and dips, those little weiners with BBQ sauce, popcorn chicken, cheese balls and crackers, veggies ... yummy. Only this year I'm on a diet ... so perhaps I'll have to learn to love the Super Bowl for its other qualities (does it have other qualities??). What do you love about the Super Bowl?

This may not be what your looking for but, my love for the super bowl is for the sport. without football i would be lost. Ive played football for 10yrs and ive watched/learned it for longer. And to be honest i think thats why alot of people watch it. not for the food, shows,or whatever.

I love it for the game itself. Some truly great (and truly stupid) plays have occurred in the Super Bowl. But, just because you are a diet doesn't mean you can't go nuts with the food. Find healthy snacks for the game. Seriously, get creative and go beyond the peanut butter on a celery stick. Have fun, pick out and don't cheat on your diet.

Any ideas of healthy snacks that might be more exciting then peanut butter on a celery stick ... though I have to admit that doesn't sound too bad!! I must be getting hungry!

There are two things that I love the Super Bowl.... 1. The commercials as you mentioned. And 2. The half time show! :) I can not have all those snack foods either. :( I don't even know if the Super Bowl will be on in my house that day. But if it is, I will request that I be called when the commercials and half time show comes on. :D Sorry you can't enjoy the snacks....you do know it is ok to splurge once a month, right? :) Surveys have shown, those that will splurge once a month, have more control and look forward to and are selective of what that one splurge is a month. Just thought I would mention that to you. And not that you like this...but Pork Rinds have ZERO nets carbs. This is good for a snack for those that like them.

ROFL! Pork Rinds! My husband's parents love pork rinds and always have them in their house. They constantly tease me that it would be a "good" snack for me to have. ICK! :)

I'm with you, the parties and the food are the only thing that I like about the Superbowl. I'm not a football fan at all, so I never watch the game. The party that I usually go to has something for everyone. The game, DVD's in another room for those who don't like football, and a Texas Holdem poker game to liven things up. Plus raffles, door prizes, football pools... One couple started this party many years ago and it gets bigger and better every year, including the food! So, if you're on a diet and can't eat the goodies, and you don't like the game... There's always the half-time show. What is it this year, anyway? I would find it hard to stick to a diet on a day like that. Good Luck!

Oh, I know I'll have a hard time this year, so my "game plan" is to do really well this week, play volleyball on Friday night and perhaps some basketball on Saturday so I can give myself a little break on Sunday! Your party sounds really amazing! I like the idea of the Texas Hold 'Em game ... though like I said I'll be going to our church and I don't forsee any poker games! ;)

#1-Football #2-Food #3-Commericals Football is king with me, but the other aspects are also nice. I assume you are a woman and therefore won't be all that interested in the football, but try to enjoy the company or the game for what its worth.

I am a woman, but I love athletics and have great respect for all athletes ... for their ability and skill, not necessarily for them as people. I will watch the game, at least the first half ... if it becomes a blow out then I'll start with the chatting!!

I love everything about the Super Bowl. I'm disappointed that my team's not in it this year, but I'm still anticipating a great game!! The commercials are always funny and entertaining and the food is great. One of my other favorite things about the Super Bowl is that its a great chance to get together with friends and family and spend time together.

So who's your team? I used to be a Cowboys fan, but just have lost interest over the years. Excellent point about spending time with family and friends. This year we will be watching the Super Bowl with close to a hundred friends at our church on the big screen. This is excellent because the ladies in our church can cook like nothing else! Also there are many people who bring board games because they don't watch the game!

I like the game. This year my team, the Chicago Bears, are playing so that makes it much more exciting. I like the food. This year we are having pizza and breadsticks. And, I also like sharing the experience with my 27 year old daughter who is also a Bears fan. This year my wife and mother-in-law will also be joining us. My wife isn't into football too much but she is watching just to be with the rest of the family. On other super bowls I have had friends over. I think the super bowl provides a nice opportunity to get together with family and friends and socialize.

Personally I like the guys in tight pants...lol just teasing. I like the super bowl because I take one team and my husband takes the other and we cheer. We don't have a lot of snack foods sitting around. But to be honest I think my husband is working so that means I channel surf...lol

"Personally I like the guys in tight pants" ... So long as you're not talking about the linemen we might be in agreement!

#1, I just love football, and I'm psyched this year because I am a Colts fan! But I love the time I spend with my dad. Even now that I am married, I still go home on Super Bowl Sunday and watch it with him. It's a nice tradition we have and it would break both our hearts if we stopped following it.

I must say, I'm disappointed. I have two favorite teams, and neither of them are going to play this year. My two teams are the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots. I have been a Packer fan since I was a youngster. I'm not a youngster any more. I like the food. I like the commercials. I really enjoy the game, except when it's a blowout. The opportunity to get together with friends and family is something that all of us should really enjoy at every opportunity. Unfortunately, I will probably be home watching THE GAME. I really expect the Colts to win. I just don't think I can trust The Bears quarterback. I figure he will find a way to screw-up their chances. I hope that, whatever it is that everyone is looking for it turns out to be worth the time you spend looking for it. Enjoy the game everybody.

I am all about the Game. And MrNiceGuy, I am a woman. I love championship sports. They are so exciting and there is so much emotion in them. I love to actually watch the SuperBowl. Of course I love it more when my NINERS are in it. I watch the games every week during the regular season and I play fantasy football which does make the game more exciting. For the Superbowl I love to make silly bets as well, of course if I am in Laughlin I make real bets. I love getting togehter with my family and friends even the ones who don't like football. It is a great reason to get together, eat too much, get too loud and act like children. How much fun is that! I try not to look too forward to the commercials because a few years ago I was disapointed in them and that did take some of the enjoyment away. So I wait for them and enjoy them when they are good and ignore them when they aren't. With all that said, I would and have watched the Superbowl by myself because the game is really the most important thing to me. I think this year will be a good one....at least I hope it is.

THE GAME! I love football- Although my team isn't there this year- I'm a Steeler fan! With my team not in it I can concentrate more on the commercials.. Last year I had to run around and get food and chit chat during commercials-- I was so into the game. And you're right the Food-- We always do pizza, wings, quesadilla's, chips/dip and of course Veggies!

For me, the game itself is #1...I'm a huge football fan, and The Super Bowl is always bittersweet...It's the biggest game of the season, but other than the Pro Bowl, it means six months until Pre-season starts up again...Hopefully this year, the officials will officiate, and not make calls to totally influence the outcome of the game. Second is the food...Pizza, nachos, wings, and ice cold Bud...Sodas for the kids and the non-drinkers. :) I used the love the commercials, but don't feel they've been up to par the last few years...And with the halftime show being Prince this year, I think that'll be the perfect time for a snack/restroom run. :)

Ugh, Prince! I had no idea! I don't normally like the half time show and actually I think we usually mute it and like you run to the restroom and grab snacks (just not at the same time!).

The best thing about the super bowl is the sport of it watching as the teams battle to win and play like they have never played before and then there is the mvp to give so someone is gaming for it as well as other perks to the game some will watch for the commercials as the stakes were high dollar to get a spot I understand that Ozzy is going to appear in one this year and then there is half time depending upon who they got but usually its pretty good so there are many qualities about the super bowl other then food,I am not a big fan of food so I have never watched it for the food it has always been for the sport and my team didn't make it either this year but there is next year.I also love the superbowl because it is a nostalgic thing people are always trying to guess which one it is and I just smile and say for evry year old that I am is the number of the superbowl coming up.

I Love watching the Super Bowl. I find it a Great way to sit and relax, and enjoy time with family and friends. I also Love having food to munch on, and enjoy while watching the game. If you are on a Diet though this yr. you might still keep with the Veggies and Dip, and then maybe find some things like Popcorn, or other things that are lower in Carbs and Calories to enjoy. I will probably be at work during a lot of the Game, but will try to catch the game from time to time when I can.

This is a good question! I also love the food aspect! I just wish I had the opportunity to have more SB parties. I don't normally watch football, so I just pick the team I'm rooting for on a whim, usually based on the uniforms or who has the cutest players. Or whoever my hubby is NOT going for! I know, I know, typical woman. lol. I also love the commercials, though.

I have a similar ritual in that I cheer for whoever the most popular team (as selected by those at the party)! This often receives many groans ... because whoever I cheer for loses! :) Just so you know I'm cheering for the Bears this year!

I love SUper Bowl day! Hard this year as I like both teams! But, no matter whos wins it will be fun. It is great for the food, fun and fellowship. Being with friends and sharing a common hobby is a great thing. Everyone needs time to leave worries behind and what better way! Enjoy the game!

We really need an edit function... I also love the game itself. I have never been big on any one team, although I am getting Patriots fever living up here now. I just enjoy a great game. I started a few years back to do a commercial round-up for a blog I was doing, but never finished it so I didn't do it. I wish I had because that would be fun to so every year now!

I'm a big football fan in general, although this year the Superbowl is a bit rough for me because as a Baltimore Girl it can't help but rankle me just a bit that the Colts are in it (Go Bears!!!). But there's lots to love about it outside of the game itself. The halftime shows are usually entertaining. My friends and I like watching all the commercials and picking our favorites - the best and the dumbest. Of course I loved the Budweiser commercials with the ferret! And you're right, the food is awesome. Its one of those days I let myself eat whatever I want and be guilt-free about it. Then of course, there's just the chance to get everyone together to hang out and watch the game. The football fans get into the action on TV, and the more casual spectators just relax, chat, laugh over the commercials and enjoy the night. I always feel kinda sad at the end, though. Football is over, baseball is a ways away, and I'm not much of a basketball fan. It's the beginning of the sports dry season.
