How do you all feel about Ken Drydens # being retired? Do you feel there have been alot of numbers retired in the last few years and do you think it is necesary? People were joking at work today that it wont be long before there are few numbers left!

Dryden definitely deserves some type of recognition, but I have to agree that the whole "retiring the sweater" thing has become a whole lot more blase' and meaningless. But I do have to say, putting numbers on the sweaters might have made it better for me when I homeschooled my kids. My son learned his numbers via pictures of his favorite hockey players in their numbered jerseys! If they had letters on them I could have done the alphabet too!!!!! lol

lol thats funny - I guess that would be one way to help get kids interested in the alphabet!

Ken Dryden was a hockey player in the NHL. He is retired and recently ran unsuccessfully for leader of the Liberal party. At the Ottawa Senators -vs- Montreal Canadians game on Monday Night his jersey number was retired in a ceremony.

I'm with you on this one. While I do think that there is nothing wrong with a team wanting to honour their great players, there has to be a better way to do it than these number retiring ceremonies. It is becoming so common place now that the specialness of it is gone.

Yes, I agree it is nice to honor the players in some way, but retiring numbers will eventually not be able to be done as there wont be any left! Surely they can come up with some other way to honour them.

That is funny because I thought of that when I was watching stuff on Mark Messier's number being retired. They're going to have to stop at some point or the NHL will have to start using letters. "Scored by letter R, Joe Sakic". That would be funny.

Yes, that would be funny, it would sound like Sesame street, "todays goal brought to you by the letter R, and assisted by the letter B" lol, it just doesnt sound right!
