Would you let your kids own a snake?

Oh my goodness, I could never have one that would get that big. Our Rosy boa only gets like 4 foot long.

i would have a snake as a pet. i love them and so do my kids. they grew up around all sorts of animals when they were much younger. their grandparents had a tagoue. it looks like a very big lizard. so theyre not afraid of just about any animal.

Yes! Snakes make great pets.. Kids just need to be taught the responsibilites of caring and handeling a snake.. Like any other animal.

We have had a pet snkae for well over twelve months the kids just love her and have her out of the cage more than she is in it .she hasn`t bitten anyone and when i consider all the other pets that we have you can give me a pet snake any day instead of the others

I would let my children have a pet snake if they wanted, so long as they were old enough to properly care for it. They would have to also learn a lot about the kind they wanted before they got it.

My son has learned everything there is to know about the breed, he loves learning about animals. He is not old enough to care for it by himself though.

No. Never!
I'm animalist and vegetarian and I can't stand people having fun with exotic animals. I think that animals have to live in their natural environment. A friend of mine wanted to buy a monkey, we spoke a lot about this subject and at last I could convince him not to buy it. To me it's so sad seeing these animals closed in boxes....

I wouldn't. Snakes is not a pet that a kid can have..they can have a turtle or a cat, but not a pitbull or a snake...i consider it's too potentially dangerous for them. After all, wild animals will always be dangerous...and even domestic ones like dogs attack sometimes....i would sincerely say no.

Yes, my daughter has two Red-Tailed Boas that she adores. I don't really handle them much but I like them fine. They aren't very interactive, but neither is my cat!
One thing: be sure to wash hands after handling them.
We also have a Crested Gecko and my other daughter and her fiance have two Bearded Dragons. Fun stuff!

NO WAY!!! My kids know that I am very scared of snakes and that it isn't even a consideration. Of course, I am lucky enough to have girls and they don't like snakes either. We did get a bearded dragon and they were shocked that I let them have it. I don't mind it at all. Matter of fact,he is kind of cool!

I'm not old enough to have kids yet, but my initial choice would be "no." I'm only just now getting old enough to the point where I would consider a snake.. Yes, I am myself awfully scared and mistrusting of snakes. But I ended up in a discussion with somebody in regards to pets' effects on their owner's health. I contemplated the possibility, and I figured a snake would be the least trouble. So I would be somewhat interested in owning one myself.
But I agree with the person who suggested if my kid wants one, they can buy it themselves.

We have 8 snakes. Three of them belong to my daughters. A rosy boa is a pretty tame snake, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
