You have to live for one month with no TV or PC. What would you do ........

....to occupy yourself in the evenings? Going to the pub/bars is not an option nor is reading a book - too easy and everyone will just say "I'd read a book" or "I'd go for a drink"! I would spend more time practising my guitar playing (which is not very good), I'd start drawing and painting again and I'd probably fit in a couple more sessions at the gym. What about you?

To properly answer your question I would have to say I would go to work. This is because I work during the evenings. However, I think this is not in the spirit of the question. I used to love doing craft things but don't have time now I am trying to make money on the internet and since I discovered MyLot. I would get out my embroidery, my artwork or write some more poetry. I would also need to do some thorough cleaning. If it was during the summer I would be able to do more in the garden. At the moment the computer calls....

You know I think for me the computer has taken over my life! I actually used to DO things before I started working online. I used to create birthcharts for people, make my own cosmetics, draw, play guitar.... I hardly ever do any of these things now. My pc has become a tyrant! Thanks for your response.

It will be okay. because i am only after television to watch the daily news and if I'm so bored and have nothing to do. While internet is so important to me. I can perhaps use other gadgets if computer is nowhere to found. i can communicate with my love ones in far places via cellphone or landline phone. Chat? I don't do it that much. Online programs? Well, it will be only for oe month. I can resume afterwards. I can stand without television and computer in a month as long as there is an alternative. Like painting matierial s and biography books. You see, i can stand the whole day without anyone to talk to, as long as these things are present.

Sometimes I think if I didn't have any choice and just couldn't use the pc I would get so much more done. In some ways you know it would be liberating lol!

Sometimes at evening I cant go to my PC, my son it´s my priority, but when I go to sleep I watch some TV (till I fall asleep), so without TV or PC I would start writing again.

Yes I would probably do some writing as well. My life seems to revolve around the PC which is probably not good! Thanks for your response.

This is a hard one I must say, with no referrence to DiscoDiva's earlier comments!! I suppose I would take the opportunity to educate myself further by going to the library and researching my interests. I have always wanted to do mentoring work with the youth, so without the PC luring me to it every night I may get a chance to branch out and do this. I must say though, for that month I would most probably drink heavily to relieve the loss!!

LOL you know what - I started this discussion some time ago and I just looked back over what I said I would do and it gave me a laugh anyway. The truth is I would probably spend most of the time getting drunk too! My friend does mentoring with young people. She finds it very rewarding. It's a worthwhile thing to do.

My son is a TV addict and for his finals I had no choice but to cut off the TV channels for a whole year. We thought it would be awful, but believe me time just flew. We listened to music and read books, besides I got more time to complete my house chores. It is a good pass time, but not something we cant do without. By the way, our sacrifice paid off as my son passed with flying colours.

Well done to your son and I think it's great you were prepared to support him like that. I wish more parents were as conscientious as you obviously are.

I hardly watch tv either because I'm always on the pc. People are always saying to me "did you see that programme last night" and I never have lol. Gissi would probably be quite happy with extra walks I suspect!

Ehy Stiletto, we have some things in common.... I'd like to occupy myself practising my bass playing, drawing and painting. Infact drawing and painting are my favourite hobbies, and as I have a child who is 7, I am a very busy person, and so I have never time for myself, so, if I could spend one month for my hobbies, I'd like drawing and painting. Unfortunately now I can practise these hobbies of mine only by night, after my son fell asleep.

It's not easy keeping up with hobbies when you have young children is it? I remember that from when my daughter was small.

Oh she's not small anymore - 26 years old. She has a gorgeous baby daughter of her own so I'm a grandmother now as well! That's what happens when you have children very young I guess - you end up being a granny when you're fairly young too!

Yes Stiletto, you are right, it isn't easy, but.... I try doing it the same.... Wow.... a small daughter? Compliments, how old is she now?

I did have to spend a month away from the computer or at least the Internet recently, i found I just watched much more television. I also started sewing again I'm working on a quilt I'm making totally by hand which will take years to complete.
@Stiletto (4579)
3 Nov 07
I used to knit and crochet (I'm rubbish at sewing) but I haven't done either for ages and ages. I think this new year along with the usual resolutions about stopping smoking and losing weight I'll add "get a life again" to the list lol. Seriously there are lots of things I used to do - I used to do birthcharts for people and draw and all that sort of stuff. Nowadays - nothing! Just stuck in front of the pc ALL the time!

TO be without a tv is no big deal for me. A PC is a whole other thing. I have a great habit of reading anyhow, so that would be my thing to do and do the things I be putting off more.

I'd cut paper! Make cards, books, pop-ups, altered journals, wall art, photo albums... As it stands now, I have so many emails from family, friends, and our business that I'm sitting here sometimes all day! TV isn't a problem because I don't watch it much. It would be great to have all that free time!!
@Stiletto (4579)

LOL I like that! "Rustic Cards". I'll remember that one for the future.

TV wouldn't be a problem for me either because I hardly watch it these days. Now the PC is a different matter though! Cut paper - that's an interesting one. I tried making my own cards but they looked like a 5 year old had done them lol! I'm not particularly creative in that way I'm afraid.

When I was young (seems like many centuries ago), we didn't have t.v. or computers (of course), and went visiting (relatives & friends), often. It would be easy to do this again. I enjoy walking, so would spend more time walking (and getting fitter). Playing board games (also chess, draughts and cardgames) was also a poplular pastime, and it would still make a pleasant evening's entertainment. I still spend a lot of time reading (and listening to audio books), so I would expect to continue with this as well.

You know I actually resisted having a pc at home for ages. I only got my first one maybe 3 years ago which was long after all my friends had one. Before I got it I used to actually DO things! I used to read, write, draw, go out .. lots of stuff. I rarely do any of that nowadays. However I have resolved I'm going to change all that. I've become a couch potato except it's in front of the pc instead of the telly lol!

Whenever I get bored or have nothing else to do I just open my computer and surf in the internet watch shows or chat. Or sometimes watch movies in dvd. So if ever I have to live in one month with no tv or computer maybe i will really get bored and look for something interesting to do.

It would maybe not be such a bad thing if you think about it. I'm sure I could find more interesting things to do too if I wasn't on the pc so much. Thanks for your response.
