I am not feeling all that great today , my throat is sore and I am really tired . I work from 6 til 1 in the morning and am trying to decide weather I should go into work or not . I stayed home yesterday as I had a migraine and have missed time because of road conditions . I don't want to be seen as someone who takes time off all the time and was just wondering what you do in this type situation .

How important is it to live up to your responsibilities? i gave my word when i started my "job" as an internet dj and the first week i had issues with my voice. i quite frankly squeaked with every sound. It was difficult to speak at all and knowing that i was on the air and being heard all over the world made it even more so. However, i gave my word to do that job. It is my responsibility. So, i did it and i survived it and i felt a whole lot better about myself for doing so than i would have if i had not went on. i think you will probably feel better about yourself if you go in and tough it out.

You shouldn't go if you are very sick or could spread it to others. If you think you can stand i I would try to go. Mainly because it sounds like you've taken a few other days off for other things. If you are going to spread it around though, don't go. Then everyone else will get sick and hate you and the boss won't like everyone being gone at the same time.

Whether or not I call in sick to work depends upon how sick I am and what type of illness. I work around nursing students and sick patients. If I have an elevated temperature then yes, I call in sick. I do not want to make the sick people any sicker! If I simply have a migraine or troublesome backache I don't call in sick. Minor sore throats and colds, nope, I don't call in sick. We just can't do that, there would be no one to care for the patients! When it is minor sore throat and colds...we wear gloves and masks and keep on moving!

Sometimes I go, sometimes I stay at home. It depends on how much work I have to do and how tough my sickness really is. There were situations when I went to work with high temperature because project I was working on was close to finishing. If there is no much work I will stay at home. And the nature of my work allows me sometimes to work from home, so if I don't have to be at work I might stay at home and work from home. It all depends.

If I think that whatever I have could get other people sick, I try to stay home. Not just because I want to, but because I hate when other people make me sick by coming in when they should have stayed home. That said, if I'm just feeling badly and don't think that anyone could catch it, I try to go to work. I hate when others have to do my work on short notice because I didn't come in.

I usually stay home if i know I cant function at work. A migraine would make it very hard to function. Also if you have a contageos virus its better to stay home. You dont want the whole office or place you work to come down with wwhatever it is you have.

It just depends really. If you really feel that bad, and go to work anyways, you could end up feeling worse for lack of rest. If you do go make sure you bring medicine if your taking any right now without you (as long as it does not make you dopey ofcourse lol) I can see you worrying about what the job thinks of you. I get like that too. Most places will understand because it is cold and flu season so it is going around and I would hope they would rather have you take a day off than get others sick too. If other than recently you have not taken much time off, than don't worry about it. I very rarely take any time off even when I'm sick becaiuse I'm working full time from home for the time being, but I recently took a day off because I had the flu and it even hurt to type. Feel better :)xxxxx

It depends on how sick I am feeling and if I have the time available or not. I only call out sick if I am feeling absolutely horrible. I do not call out because I have the sniffles or a cold or a headache. It has to be to the point where I feel that I could not be productive.

It is always a tough decision to know where to draw the line when it comes to missing work. I used to go to work no matter what. Then one day my boss had to take me to the ER because I could not even walk. My migraine was that bad. The dr told me to not work when I felt like that again. They had to call my husband to come from his job to sign papers for me to get narcotics for pain. So we both had to miss work because the Dr would not release me usless someone was going to be with me the rest of the day. After that, I did not go to work when I was that sick.

I am a highly respected in my job, so there are no problems with staying at home if I'm really sick, however when I was younger, I was forced to school despite my being sick ,parents were very strict about education (yeah like 1 days going to do a difference to my life)

Tough decision, but you have to go on how you feel. If you don't feel well enough to cope at work, there's no point in going.

If your not feeling well and worried about the time off your taking then maybe go to your doctor to get a certificate? We can do this in Australia if we need too, to let our employees know we're not faking, a backup really and that way they cant fire you or anything. I remember when I was young and I would stay home sick, my mum would make sure we werent faking by making us stay in bed and not getting up to muck around lol, ahh the good ol days of being a kid ;)

When I was working I never used to take time off if I was ill. However I do keep my daughter off school if she is very ill, but then as she is in Reception class it doesn't matter that much as I can do more work with her at home than she does in school.

I always keep my children home when they are sick but hope I am not setting a bad example for them when they are older . I just know how I feel when I am not feeling well and don't want to put them through the same thing .

If I truly feel ill, then I would not go to school or work. If I could push myself, then yes, I would go.

If you have aleady missed this much than i think that you could at least try to tough it out. When you get there though be sure to explain to your boss that you are in fact sick and who knows he may just send you home on his or her own!!

i read in an article that one of the major causes of brain damage would be going to work (or working your brains out) when you're sick or when you're not feeling well. and yeah, just take a rest when you're feeling sick coz you'll just end up feeling worse when you're stuck at school or at work with that illness. in my case i end up screwing my work coz i get all irritable.

I prefer to not to, but my workplace want you to show up in the mornig for your shift, because if you just call in they will write you up. I don't work for this company anymore, after 16 years I gave them 2 weeks note, and that's it....my boss was very upset, so I gave her the not you it's me speech.. after all I don't want to cut my own head off with the real reasons! But with my kids I build up a good system: if they are sick I will keep them home always, if their homework not ready that's the reason they think they are sick, I will work out something, so their grades not go low, pretty much beetwen us have honesty, worked out very well!
