So Metallica fans...I certainly feel that the success of metallica rides upon the power drumming of Lars in addtion to the excellent vocals of James...In my opinion Lars rules the drumming by his impeccable technique n subtle variations...So he is my favourite drummer n i feel he is the best...
What do you feel ????

i think lars has helped to compose some of the best songs in the history of heavy metal, but he's not the best drums player at all....there are many which are better at it, even though they are probably not as great composers as he is.

Slayer had two great drummers. Bostaph who replaced Lombardo for sometime. Bostaph and Lombardo arguably better than Lars but Lars is alot more famous.

I think Lars is a decent drummer, he's steady and has some groove but he's nowhere near the greatest drummers of all times. He can't do things Gave Richardson, John Bonham , Terry Bozzio or Danny Carey are able to do.

i would definitely agree he is a good drummer.Lars has some great variations but i guess i wouldnt say he is the best.you should try listening to other drummers too.nick menza from Megadeth too was really good.try out the band called dream theater .The music is simlpy awesome.they are all experts in their own domain.try it out buddy and let me know how you like them and how you rate them compared to Lars.

Ya ..I have heard Dream Theater too...But dint like them that much beacuse of the lenghts of therir songs...Mike portnoy definitely is a gr8 drummer too....His uses his double bassing technique to the fullest...Thats where his strength lies...You suggest me the songs of Dream Theater and Megadeth which you like and i'll try them ...maybe i have missd the good ones coz i m not much into these bands....

Yeah, exactly what turns me off in Dream Theater as well...especially James LaBrie vocals too. Menza wasn't that good, all he had is speed actually.

If you read my other post you know I hate Lars' big mouth.......however he is a great drummer. I say this only because he is (with the band) a pioneer of sorts. Metallica's "stop beat" is classic and original. You could not just get in there and fake drumming a Metallica song. Songs I have heard for years I still can miss a beat on (I'm a great air drummer). As far as the success, I don't think it is more Lars than James....it is after all a group effort. If it weren't for James what would Lars have to drum about...

I respect all opinions since this is a subjective matter, but i don't agree at all when some ppl say he's the best drummer in the world. In fact i don't think he's among the best of the world. You should check out ppl like Dave Lombardo, Mike Terrana or Mike Portnoy and you would see what i am talking about....Lars Ulrich used to be a great drummer with albums like And Justice for all, but in St. Anger he is not even average, that album has a terrible drums performance, so lets hope he does better on their next album.
