How much do you spend on clothes? What's the most you've spent on one item?

After replying to wife of jimbo's jeans discussion, I was just wondering how much people spend on clothes? What's the most expensive item you've bought? Do you have a clothing budget? I find the amount I spend differs from week to week. I would probably buy on average at least one item per week for myself, whether it's a pair of shoes, a top, or underwear. Usually I only buy something if it's been reduced, or if I feel I'm getting a bargain. I might buy a top for 10 euro, or a pair of trousers for 20 euro. During the January sales I spent about 400 euro on clothes for myself. My husband, who rarely buys clothes, spent about 500 euros. Then there was money spent on the children too. The most expensive item I've ever bought was 195 euros that I spent on a dress last year for a wedding I went to. I don't budget. I've never gotten around to doing that. I just pick up things as I want them, or as I can afford them. What about you?

I am not a clothes horse. I live with what I have. The only time I feel the need to buy clothes is when my weight fluctuates or I find I don't have enough dressy clothes. I don't work outside the home anymore. When I was working I probably bought more clothes because I needed to look nice every day. However, I cannot justify spending exorbitant amounts of money on clothing. I don't go for name brands or whatever. I get what I can get at the cheapest price. I think my second wedding outfit was probably the most expensive outfit I ever paid for (and I can't remember how much that was - probably over $100. I don't usually go beyond that). Plus, I have the advantage of at 44 years of age, I still get hand-me-downs from my mother and my sisters. LOL!

I rented my first wedding dress - the long white dress with the veil. I rented it for $300. My bridesmaids rented their dresses for $80. We all knew we would never wear them again so that's what we did. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than buying one.

I used to love getting the bag of hand-me-downs from my cousins. Unfortunately this isn't something that happens any more. I didn't include my wedding dress in my most expensive items I'd bought. It was extremely expensive but I made the excuse that I would only do it the once. :)

Most expensive clothing I purchased was a suit for $200. It was on sale for 50% off and I needed a new suit. I do not buy closthes that often. My wife and daughter buy more clothes than me and my son. I guess clothes shopping is just not a priority with me and my son. If its not worn out I continue to wear it. I try to buy styles that do not go out of style. I do not have a budget for clothing but buy clothes when they are needed.

I tend not to budget for my clothes, cheap and chearful at Tesco or Asda does for most of it, altho' I do spend more on the kids. Shrek spends a lot on his casual clothes.

Tesco have some gorgeous women's clothes. I've bought a couple of skirts there. I think Tesco or Penneys is great for kids clothes because they grow out of them so quickly.

I have no clothing budget. I buy stuff when I really need it--as in my jeans and shirts all have holes in them. I just bought a new pair of jeans for $25 which is more then I like to spend but what can you do. I also went to target and picked up 3 shirts that were originally $15 each but were 30% off. I usually buy t-shirts in the men's department so I can get plain ones for $6 each. I still need a new pair of shoes. I haven't bought new shoes in 4 years and mine are starting to fall apart. They are probably the most expensive thing I buy but I refuse to pay over $50-$60 for them. (I usually buy Nike or New Balance). I just spent about $150 at Target (the day I got the shirts) but it was mostly stuff for the kids. It was all on sale except one pair of shoes for my 10 month old.

I'm amazed at the prices you can get stuff for. Here, the cheapest pair of jeans would set you back about 30 euros. That's the cheapest. An average pair of jeans would cost about 50 euros. Tesco had some mens jeans just before Christmas for 6 euros and they raced off the shelves.

I'm cheap. I think $30 for a shirt is expensive. I like to try and keep all of my clothing $20 or less.

Oh so do I. Like I said, unless I'm getting a bargain, then I really don't bother with it. I went six months last year without buying a single thing. I made a point of not even going into clothes shops.

Yes I hate spending money on clothes..it just feels wrong. but in saying that, i have no problem going into a record store and spending 100 bucks on cds. I usually don't like going over $40 (australian. about 20 US) for an item of clothing. Unless it's shoes..where i don't mind spending up to about 100 bucks on a pair.

I try not to think about it, otherwise, I probably wouldn't go shopping again. A couple of years back I splashed out on an outfit for my daughter's wedding, and that cost me €800. The accessories cost about half that much again. I would normally pay about €400 for a winter coat, but skirts and tops average between €50 - €60 and a little more if they are for a special occasion. I rarely buy anything during the sales as the shops are always crowded and I get annoyed with people and the pushing and shoving.

I hope your daughter appreciated you going to all that expense for her wedding. I don't like the sales either. I usually wait until mid-January to go shopping as the crowds are gone but there are still bargains to be had.

I dont clothes shop for myself very often and when I do I try to find the best deal or catch things on sale etc but its not uncommon for me to pay and easy $80 for a pair of jeans and I've been doign it since i was 14 LOL which is why I dont own a lot of jeans LOL BUT I really havent much of a choice since I need a 36" inseam which means goin to a specialty shop like Tall Girl or Long Elegant Legs etc..other than that though I dont think I have any big ticket clothes really....

I don't often spend very much on clothes, usually once or twice a year I'll go round the stores and buy what I need, usually replacements for items wearing out. Constant shopping is my idea of hell, I would rather just get it over with as quick as I can.

I think this is a typical man's approach to shopping Eskimo. Most shops are starting to cop onto this now and are providing seating areas and refreshments for men to wait while their wives are trying on clothes. Soon the vision of men waiting patiently outside women's boutiques will be in the past. :)

I am not very much shopaholic. I do shoping for my cloths generally twice a month, if there is no special ocassion. And ofcourse if I get a bargain I pick some of those item like colths, shoes, jwelary and bag for me. Highest I spent on my one dress was $200. For day to day use I don't buy expensive cloths.

I rarely ever buy bags. I've seen some lovely ones, but they're not something I like to spend money on. I don't really carry them that often. I just use my pockets. :)

I'm a bit stingy when it comes to clothes for myself LOL. I tend to spend the money on buying the kids clothes. I've been known to buy clothes from charity shops, and redued items. I very rarely spend loads of money on myself. In fact i got a good bargain the other week....I am a member of www.freecycle.com and its all stuff people just want to get rid of, and it cost me £6 for the taxi for 4 black bags of clothes. LOL A wardrobe make over for 6 quid! Cant get better than that!

To be honest, I try not to spend too much on clothes these day, mainly as I simply can't afford to. However, the most expensive outfit I ever bought was a scarlet satin ballgown, bought for a very special party and it cost me £250 almost 10 years ago.

I try really hard not to spend a lot of money on clothes. I get most of my clothes from thrift shops or inexpensive stores like Kohl's or Ross Dress for Less. My most expensive clothing purchase has to be my green Doc Marten boots. I paid $120 for them...but I bought them over 10 years ago and they're still going strong, so I think it was a worthwhile investment!

I had a pair of the green ones, actually two pairs. One was really soft leather and they were boots and almost pointy. The others were just the regular boots like the oxbloods. God I miss them! I still have a brown pair I wear to work. I think I have had them for 10 years. They last forever!!! :)

Well since im male i dont spend much on clothes - not that much as women do. I rarely hang out shopping and i only do so if i'm in need of something. That time i'm ab le to spend a great amouth of money on something if i like it very much ( what happens not very often). And since i dont hangout often shopping i spend llike 50-100$ on clothes every 2-3 months so that is not much i think :)

This proves the point that men are hunters, and women are gatherers. Men go to a mall or to a shop with a specific purpose or specific product to buy (they hunt for the product). While women go to the mall with no specific target and come out of the mall with a heap of stuff.

Oh my gosh, it has been so long since I've bought myself some clothes, lol. Now after I've had my 3 kids seems like I don't buy much for myself now, it's always about the kids. Once in awhile my husband will have to make me go to the store to get myself some outfits, probably every couple months. Name brands aren't a big thing for me, I usually just buy what's on sale, or will go to discount stores, or Ross, that's my favorite stores. Sometimes I will buy name brand things if they are on sale at a really cheap price.

Honestly I am not comfortable spending big bucks for clothes. I always go for the cheap ones but I make sure that I am comfortable with it and it would last long enough. It would take patience to find a good cheap clothing, that is why I do not just rely on one store. If time permits I like to go from one store to another to compare for the price, design and quality.I do invest in a good pair of jeans and shoes. But not those designer ones.
