Is Linux the way to go?

I have heard so many positive things about Linux, but I really don't know anything about it. I'm hoping someone with knowledge of this OS can help me.
Does Linux cost anything? Can you have both Linux and Windows on the same computer? Is the user interface easy to use? What are the positive things about it? What are the drawbacks?
I'm sorry for all the questions, but I just really am curious. I would like to try a different OS, and Linux seems like a good choice. Thanks!

I've used Linux on machines set up as dual boot machines with windows and not experienced too many problems(apart from setting up wireless network was a bit problematic).
It is completely free and if you go to ubuntu.com you can download for free or even order a CD for free. It usually includes a Live CD so that you can try it before installing.
The user interface is extremely easy to use and far more customisable than windows.
Well worth a shot especially as it's free.

It is free and is a very user friendly interface. I am not sure if you could use it with windows as well, but I'm sure if you had it you wouldn't want to go back to Windows.
