I Was Just Called Old

I was chatting on a forum for an upcoming convention, and was talking with someone from my own town. They commented that they were surprised someone 'old' was attending the con.
Ignoring the fact that I didn't realize there was an age limit for attending conventions...
Since when is mid-20s old? Maybe to an eighteen year old it is, but I can't remember thinking someone who was twenty four was in any way old. When did this change? Or was this just a fluke? I'm used to being mistaken for being much older - using a cane and having naturally gray hair will give the impression of age - but I've never had anyone who knew my age comment that I was old.
Seventy or eighty, that's old.

Oh my, if you are old than I must be ancient! I am 57 years young and proud of it. I go to anything I want to and don't pay any attention to my age. I work at a nursing home, not a CNA and clown around all the time. So that the people that live there will smile and laugh. I did have one person that works there tell me to act my age. My response to her is that if she defined for me what a 57 should act like than maybe I might think about acting that way. But I don't think so. I do not let anyone dictate to me how I should act especially when it is in reference to my age.

57 is not old, just a nice age, surprising how many 57 years young people are on MyLot. You are acting your age, enjoy it.
The young should also remember the quote from Groucho Marx 'Old age is perfectly acceptable when you consider the alternative' (not sure of the exact words, but that is what he meant).

Old age describes that they are not fit for nothing. The real meaning is that they have a good experience. So dont think in a negative way by some negative persons answer. Show your experience in a good way so that you can be a great man.

could it have been a joke? wow, can't believe that they said that to you if it wasn't a joke. I know some 70 and 80 year old people tho who aren't old. My grandpa is 86 and he still climbs trees and stuff to shake out the pecans and all that. LOL Something I wouldn't do at just 36. LOL

Thank you thank you thank you - according to you I am NOT old. My 15 year old however thinks I'm ancient. It's all a mater of perspective. I think your a baby so that should counter act. I look younger than I am and my younger sister who is almost total grey hate it.

This has really got me thinking about how these kids will feel on the day when they themselves get called "old"...
Heck, when I was 18, I used to keep fit by running from Veloceraptors! LOL!
You will find strength by knowing that the comment about your age was made by a group of kids who have yet to understand the simplest meaning of Life itself, let alone age...
May Blessings Abound for you and yours! :)

I think that it would depend on what exactly the convention was. If it appeals to a certain age group (in general) a person outside of that age group may seem either young or old when their age alone wouldn't qualify them as so.

I just had the same thing happen to me a while ago! I'm 23, and I was making plans to attend Otakon this summer, and people told me that I was "getting old for cons!" I was shocked! I mean, I noticed during the 2006 cons that there were several teenagers there, but there were still plenty of people my age. I even knew people in their thirties still going to cons.
So I guess you're going to Katsucon? I wish I could go, but it's too expensive and too cold right now! I wait until the warmer weather to go to cons.

Well, the only way that someone could think of you as old would be if they were like 5. Sometimes people just open their mouths without thinking. Sorry that someone said that to you and I truly hope that you didn't take it seriously. You can hardly be called old at 24. That makes me ancient.lol Things like that I would let go in one ear and right out the other. Good luck to you here at mylot.

Hi misskatonic, I had the same thing on myspace! Because i'm into rock and metal I was told that 35 is too old to like them! Ok so I'm not a teenager anymore but who says I can't like music! (Do they realise that half the singers in decent bands these days are actually older than me?) Anyhow at 18 I remember thinking that anyone over 20 was old myself, but that's what immaturity does for you!

Its the internet. Everything is different. I consider someone who is 20+ on a forum or playing an online game to be old... Most of the people are teenagers, so 20+ is older than the majority. Online, its mainly boys aged 13-19, so anyone whos out of that is old or different. Older people aren't too common on the internet (even 20+) and especially girls. Its just older than the normal internet user.

You really believe that the average age of an internet user is 13-19? I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you. The average age of people on the net is actually 24-38. And the ratio of men to women online is pretty much equal.

Awesome looking-Seek is that an anime. Or is it with the pic. I think your pic goes well with your writing. Like it adds personality. I like how you write. Good Job.

i am 28. sometimes i think i am old but well, i am actually not! noone's too old to join conventions! everyone's welcome. sometimes, teenagers feel like they know everything! and then realize when they are old that they have done something wrong when they were younger by doing so.
