I learned to play all by myself, and now it's my bread and butter. well my older brother (a drummer), taught me the basic chords and from then, i'm on my own. I believe you can do it too. I didn't have an internet connection back then but i suggest you mingle with guitar players and get some tips, play with them. Good luck!

You might also find out if there are any jams going on your area and go to them. You can pick up a lot of helpful things going to jams even if you don't particularly like the type of music they play. They also sell guitar chord charts you can hang on the wall for reference as well as books. You might also check the library for different learning tools.

Many people can be self taught. To me you either have it or you don't. I can play several instruments but guitar was one I could never seem to master. And I took lessons. My son learned by himself and does fine. If you really want to learn the video tutorial should do just fine.

I'm self taught, & learned loads just by getting together with friends & picking stuff up from them.
But you have the internet, there are absolutely loads of free online resources to learn from out there.
There's no need to pay for lessons at all :)
