I used to wear eye-liner not so long ago. As I kid, my mother used to put eye-liner on me as well. It's traditional/custom thing.
There's NOTHING wrong with guys wearing that. I find it artisitc more than a glamour or as some might put it gayness, issue.
Men used to wear eye-liner as well as women in the old days & I have no problem with it.
I just hate it when they think only GOTHS and vampire freaks as well as ONLY women are the ones who should wear an eyeliner.

I agree with both of you :)
It's just like clothing styles..just because someone likes something doesn't mean anything except that they like that style. So people looking at them shouldn't really assume anything other than that.

I love make up on men.
it's only fair that men should be able to make the most of their features too, and you look at nature, and it's almost always the male who is colourful and decorated.
so if you think about it, it's more natural for men to wear it.
and I think it looks gorgeous.
my man looks really good in make up but only wears it occasionally, like when we go to Rocky or to see Placebo, or at halloween when he dressed up as Elvis etc.
he looks really really really scrummy in it.

If it was done tastefully and not so thick to the point that would all one would see...then I think the tastefully done is acceptable. This would mean it would only enhance the boy's eyes.
Unfortunately, the boys that I have seen that use eyeliner, it has been the thick lines that make them look like that Egyptian helped them! Sorry, but that does not look good and should be reserved to be made like that for Halloween.

Hi tia- I wanted to mention that when makeup looks thick, its usually just not a good harmonious color for that skin tone. Yesterday I did a facial on a woman who looked like she wasn't wearing any- and yert just the stage of removing her makeup took forever because she had so much on. It was very thick but also the heavy concealer type. Once her face was clean-which actually took the entire facial process to achieve, I realized she was seldom getting it all off herself. she had a nice face, good enough skin -so i couldn't think why she chose to do that, but as is often the case, it was a kind of self protection gesture. Skin always has a nice glow and radiance after a good cleansing facial, so when she touched her skin and looked at it, she was very pleased, and sat awhile silently contemplating her image. But she wouldn't leave the room without replacing her armor. Kinda sad.

I don't wear eyeliner/makeup all that much myself so I don't really like it on guys all that much. I would probably never date a guy that wore makeup because it would be like I was competing with him to be more beautiful every day. I do think that it looks good on some guys, but it looks stupid on most of them.

It's only been fairly recently,..uh, well past few hundred years anyway that men haven't worn any kind of make-up...but men had worn not only eye-liner but eyeshadow going back to ancient Egyptian times--men even wore a lot of make-up in the baroque period in France...as for now..some men do look rather fetching with eye-liner...hey look at Boy George..heehe...or Billy Joe Armstrong of the group Greenday--so why not?? If men decided to wear make-up just think--they won't be complaining how long it takes us gals to get ready, since they too are busy putting on their "face"--LOL

I'm gonna have to agree with the lady Ville just doesn't look right without make up or with short hair (I guess that's for another discussion though)
Great topic you've chosen!

First thought is that I am concerned about a guy that wears makeup. Then I think well if he is confident enough, then, why not. Indian men back in the day painted themselves for many purposes. Actors do it as part of their job.
I guess it is a form of self expression and it does not hurt anyone, then OK. Enjoy!!

my father's parents thought that roubschtick (their word for makeup) was a sign of being a hoor(another word of their own) and was outrageous on a gud woomin(one married to one of their sons)or on the daughters therof(me and my sister) so while we snickered about roubschtick- we didn't wear it. Yeah this was here in America and in the recently past century- not all THAT long ago. Judgments about nonsense. there's real crap in the world that warrents our concern, jjudging w=one another on trivia is misspent energy.

Hi xParanoiax, Well I think it suits some people and other not. It shouldn't be right that society says only girls are aloud to use it, it should be down to personal choice. I like the answer you gave to your previous responder about the ancient Egyptians, although shame he probably won't bother to come back to read it though!

I say that if a guy looks good in eyeliner, then go for it. Eyeliner shouldn't be just a "girly" thing because it's make-up. Society really has a thing about how a girl should look and how a guy should look and it really bothers me. Not all women are going to be 5'10" and weigh 100 pounds soaking wet in a rain storm. Just like not all men are going to look like a WWE wrestler.

I agree, I mean make-up is essentially a 'looks enhancer' something that draws attention to what one really already has, or in some cases doesn't have(I'm thinking of halloween/japanese rock stars, etc..but even then, it's mainly the matter of the amount used, how well it was, and how skillfully done.).
Society seems to have alot of ideas about how people and their lives SHOULD be..but it often forgets we're not cookie cutter people. We're not going to be all identical, nor should we. Individuality makes things alot more intresting..so yes, I agree..if he looks good and likes it..let him experiment with his own style.
Make-up's not gender specific, truly..

Exactly, none is going to look like anyone else as we are not carbon copied. I'm glad we are all different, unique, and have our own qualities, and characteristics. That's what make us interesting to others, life would be pretty boring if we were all the same I think!

I think guys look awesome in eyeliner, for the most part! I've noticed that most guys are pretty resistent to trying it, but if you can convince a guy to wear eyeliner, there's a good chance that he will like how it looks, or at least like the response that he gets from girls when they see him wearing eyeliner!

For me I still don't buy that thing is suited for boys but anyway if they are confident enough to wear one fine nowadays it is accepted in the society and maybe they want more aesthetic expression of themselves no problem they can have eyeliner if they want as long as they are man enough to do so.

Ancient Egyptian men wore make-up..though as the centuries progressed I think the church tried to make sure nobody wore it (there's some verse in the Bible that says its bad I think, which was why) but they ended up mostly getting guys not to..and most conventional folks believe make-up's a girl thing, couldn't possibly be a guys..which, it wasn't always so. Plenty of guys who aren't gay or rock stars wear it..and why would they be an exception from the rest of the population..just because they're famous or differently sexually oriented?
Thanks for sharing your opinion though.

I don't really like guys who wear eyeliner. It makes them look like something out of a horror flick specially if they use to much. I like my men without make-up or not doing anything girly on their face like plucking their eyebrows. I saw a movie the other day who starred a guy named Richard Grieco, he has this thick eyebrows which were obviously plucked/shaved and I was like, what's wrong with him? Those eyebrows of his look scary. LOL.
