lol or haha - which do you use?

I've noticed there seems to be a divide on mylot (or maybe it's in life) but some of us put 'lol' and yet some use the old 'haha'. Is it an age thing? Does it depend on whether we text more than we speak? I'm just curious. Does anyone have an answer or opinion because we see it on this site quite a lot. My preference is ha or haha or even ha!

Hi ginagee, I always use lol until I joined mylot, but because there are lots of people here from different nations I didn't know whether they all knew what I meant! Someone thought I was saying lots of love and I really didn't want people to think that, so I've started using haha, hehe or ha on here now!

I use both on a regular basis. If I think it's just a little bit funny, or I want it to be known that I'm just joking I say (lol) , but if I think something is really funny, then I say ( hahahhaha )

I personally use lol, but then I am one of those annoying people who always has my cellphone out texting someone. (lol). I have a friend who is an entire generation older than me (like really my moms age), she and I text back and forth almost daily, and she uses haha. And every time I type lol, I have to explain what it means to her. I think at least in our specific case, it is a generational thing. I find that typical "IM speak" generally used in instant messaging and texting flies right over her head, and I have to go back and type the whole thing out. I am definately curious to see the responses on this.

I always say lol, although sometimes I say haha. I also sometimes use the two of them together...such as lol haha. But no, generally I just use the lol by itself. It depends whether I'm texting or on msn as well. When I text I just use lol, probably because it's easier to type. Have you ever almost said lol when you were speaking? I almost have....I guess that's a sign that I should text less or something! LOL.

for me for the sake of courtesy and good etiquette, i use lol; for less funny comment, hehe and to put emphasis on funny comments i use hahaha. whether or not i can get response on those, is the least of my concern, for as long as i have given/posted my reply

It depends, for me. I always used haa, or hehehe, or similar and still use it when I chat in my language or with some friends that I know so well that the communication is more direct, even when chatting with them. But on international forums, as mylot or orkut I use lol, I like it too, besides the meaning (laugh out loudly, I think), the sound lol pleases me a lot
