Is it alright to have kids before you get married but get married afterwards?

I have come to realize that a lot of people have children before they get married. But afterwards they get married. So the kids still have both parents.
Religion tells us that we should save ourselfs for marriage. But doesn't this like justify the whole issue?

I think that the most important thing is that the parents are together, it doesn't really matter if they are married or not, as long as they are good parents to the children.
