Do you use a router to access internet? I find it very helpful. As if you have a router you can access your laptop from anywhere in your house. I don't feel comfortable to sit all the time at my desk with the desktop computer. That's why sometime I take my laptop and go to bed and do my serfing in a comfortable position.
Don't you think router is cool to use for some reason?

Yes, we have a wireless router in our house. All four of us are often on the computer at one time! My children each have laptops provided by a local college's 'gifted & talented' honor's program for high school students. My husband has our older desktop computer and I have a laptop. As you say, it is so convenient to be able to sit anywhere to use the laptop!

You mean a wireless router. :)
Yes, I have a wireless router for my laptop too. :D
I love being on the laptop so much, I hardly find myself at my desktop!
But my kids are also needing a computer more...so this has been very helpful.
I like being able to sit in my room in the sitting area on my couch curled up with a blanket and just typing away. It is better than sitting in a hard straight chair at a desk.

I do not have a router, however I have heard they are quite convenient. I need to check to see how much they cost. What I do have is a very long cable, (DSL) that extends almost to anyplace in my little teeny apartment. If I want it longer, I can add to it very easily.

I don't use router, I'm only using a mini swith hub 8 ports, since router is a lot expensive than mini switch hub, and also I don't have any laptop, all my computer are desktop model. But I think router is very very cool, it do what switch hub done and also you don't need any computer to remain online to get remain connected to the internet, that's what I'm looking for actually.

Well, I have a Linksys WRT54G that I picked up at Wal*Mart for around $30 or so...I had a little trouble with the installation, but Linksys has a great support department. They went as far as to get on a conference call with Dell, my laptop manufacturer, to get it working. I get good signal strength pretty much everywhere. I will almost always have 'Very Good' to 'Excellent' strength at 54Mbps, even between multiple floors. Good router, good price.
I do have some of the weird connection problems that people are having in the thread below; but I'm not sure if I can pinpoint that on my router...
It is bad for gaming, though. I used to get pings of like 60-70, but with the router it is a "kicked-off-server" high of around 90+, somtimes in the hundreds! More than once,I've just bypassed the router, much to the anger of my family on the laptop.
Anybody know of a good gaming router? I'm willing to spend $$$, but only if it is the best thing since sliced bread or of similar importance.

We have to use a wireless router in our house, as we use three computers. As well, as that, my daughter, her husband and my two grandchildren all bring their laptops when they come to stay, so we would end up tripping over wires if we didn't have wireless.

Yes,I use a router so my kids and I can be online at the same time on 2 different computers. I noticed a difference in the speed though, it slows my pc down when my kids are doing things like downloading music. When I asked about it, the people explained it as similar to 2 people drinking from one straw, If you use the straw alone, you get all the juice. Does anyone know if this is correct,or was I missinformed?
