I have a "sort of" homemade way to create my chili. I use a packet of "chili mix", added to some browned burger. Add my beans and sauces and cook in the crockpot. I'd love to try a "real" homemade version of chili.. especially in the crockpot if anyone has a recipe they use!

I usually just use chili powder with onions, and a pound or 2 of ground beef or turkey. I add kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans tomato sauce, corn, and the kitchen sink. I just let it cook, top it with chopped onions and cheddar. I leave off the cheese if I making cornbread. Cornbread is my speciality. I take a package of marie callendars mix and add drained corn, mild green chilis and cheddar. I bake it in a cast iron skillet and depending on the size of the skillet I might need 2 of everything. It is the best.

My dad made the chili in our house when I was a kid ... and his recipe was use a little bit of tomato juice, chopped tomatoes, 1 1/2 - 2 lbs hamburger, chili beans to your liking, onions and 50 hot peppers, half a container of chili powder, a whole bottle of tobassco sauce, and anything else hot that he could find. So that no one could actually eat it, everyone was crying and had runny noses ... so more kleenex were needed then anything else. I make my own chili now, but it's boarderline bland ... my dad did this to me!

another version that would work well in a crock pot is to use small cubes of beef instead of ground. my mom used to make a recipe like that and it was awesome with a dollop for sour cream on top!!

I do make my own, from scratch chili. It's very simple acutally. I will post my recipe here for you. Chili 1 lb lean hamburger Chopped or Dried Onions 1 large can V8 Juice Chili Powder 1 can Kidney Beans Garlic Salt or Powder 2 small cans Tomato Paste Ketchup Preheat slow cooker. Brown hamburger & drain. Mix hamburger, V8, kidney beans, tomato paste in slow cooker. Add onions, chili powder & garlic to taste. Add ketchup, if needed, to dilute chili powder & give a sweeter taste. Cook on High for a couple hours. Turn down to medium-low & simmer. Eventually turn down to low to continue simmering for 2-4 hours. One hour before serving, add 1 – 1½ cups elbow macaroni to chili, if desired. Add shredded cheese to top of individual bowls of chili as desired.

I like to throw together a bunch of stuff for my chili. I saute some onions and add canned tomato, red bell pepper, chili powder (and other seasonings to taste) and a couple different kinds of beans. Sometimes I add TVP. Sometimes I throw in diced carrot or corn.

I do make my own chili when I have the time and one that I most often make is 'chicken rice' chili. Just blend red chilies, ginger and garlic together with chicken stock and a little lemon to zest it up!! Yummmmm...

You mean you are supposed to make a recipe? We wing it everytime. This last batch was exceptional. We threw in some chicken wing sauce and garlic tobasco. If you are in a budget pinch on a tournament. I used to fill the crockpot with chili, add chips and cheese and we could feed 1/2 of the team. Way cheaper then going out and more fun too. Throw the video games on the hotel TV and you can relax after the games.

I just make chili with beef, beans (the "Texas kind from the can), tomato sauce and spices. Then I eat it with fritos, for the real Texas experience.

When it comes to chili I don`t follow a recipe, I just go by the taste of it, if it doesn`t taste right I adjust the seasoning or spices til it tastes right. Sorry I can`t help you out , however you can visit allrecipes.com for some ideas . GOOD LUCK

I make chili, with bean...or con carne... yummy. I like it HOT, on rice or buns or noodles. I love my crockpot. At this very moment it is cooking Canadian pea soup. Using a ham leg bone and dried yellow peas. Onions, carrots,...supper with homemade rolls or biscuits. Its going to be good.
