House prices have rocketed through the roof where I live recently, most out of reach of first time buyers. In the town where I live for a two bedroomed home you would be looking at about £150,000 or approx $300,000. Whats the average price for homes where you live?

One should be so lucky to find a two bedroom for $300K around here.
Even tough prices have stablized as of late, it's almost impossible to find affordable housing. And rentals are almost equally as rediculous. For a 2 bedroom single gamily detached unit in a descent neighborhood, you are looking at $600K at least.

Wow, How prices change around the world, i'm guessing I should have asked what average wages were to give some comparison, like I've replied in the last response our average is around $42,000 (ish) Nearly 8 times our yearly wage! Thank you for your response!

It's really hard to say what the average salary around this area is but I can say that one needs to be making at least 60-70 thousand a year just to get by....housing prices has got out of hand and makes it nearly impossible for new homeowners.

The house price where I live are around $300,000. but this is for a 3 bedroom home, but they are really out of the reach of the first home buyer as well even though my government gives them $7,000 to start them off it is just outrageous and does not help the young to even try to think that there is a possibility of owning their own homes one day.

It's not too bad I suppose in this day and age for a 3 bedroom house, it's good that the government give them money to start them off! All our blimmin government do is tax them and tax them again! It's nigh on impossible unless you've got wealthy parents to give you a helping hand!

I bought my house 6 years ago and recently had it valued, and I was shocked to see it had doubled in value. My 3 bedroom town house is now worth £140,000 in the Midlands. This is about average, though, with small two bedroom houses fetching £120,000 while some of the fancy city apartments going for extortionate amounts of money, pricing loads of people out.

That sounds like a good idea, I don't know anyone who can afford to buy a property at the moment who is a first time buyer, without having to take out a mortgage for FIVE times their earnings! It's ridiculous! Thanks for your comment

We just bought our first home in September for $135,000. I think this is about the average for our area (Northern Illinois)but I think we got a deal. The seller was going through a messy divorce and just wanted to unload it so his wife wouldn't get so much. We have 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths(whirlpool tub in the master), fireplace, swimming pool, etc..The house behind us just went for $179,000. What gets the homeowners in our area is property taxes. I'm sure it's probably worse though in other parts of the country.

I think housing prices are ridiculous!
even a small flat is like £100,000, and renting isn't much better being about £600 a month!!
I definatly want to move abroad! Nice houses for cheaper! and its true they are a LOT nicer than the houses round here!

The house prices have risen here dramatically over the past few years. When I bought my townhouse in 98 it was only worth $87,000 and now it is worth in the $130,000 range. All houses around here have gone up a lot. Family sized homes are much higher and are in the range as yours or higher. It will be tough for first time home buyers to purchase a home these days without working multiple jobs.

The price of the house in my area is depend on the quality and the size of the material. The house with a big lot area and house have cost more than 550 thousand dollar and the lesser house cost is around 70 to 100 thousand dollar.
