I have been on a "diet" the last few weeks. I am following the weight watchers point system and following the advice of The Best Life diet of Bob Greene. I do very well during the week while I am working. I never cheat or feel the urge to eat more than I should. My problem is the weekend. I get bored I think even though I have more than enough to do. Any ideas on how I can curb my weekend binging. I am happy that I am down 10 lbs already, but I think it could be Soooo much more if my weekends went smoother. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

You could try some sugar free sweets, but they always made me crave even more. I just sip on a cold glass of water and get my mind busy. Sucking on ice cubes sometimes helps as well.

I'm like this as well.
Can't you save your points and enjoy the extra ones at the weekend. I think I used to do that sometimes when I tried this diet.
I tell you a good one is the Paul McKenna "I can make you thin" hypnosis cd and book.
He gives you advise on tapping onto pressure points on your body that stops cravings.
I listened to his cd and I lost over a stone.
His philosophy is about eating exactly what you want, but knowing when to stop and being able to leave something on your plate at the end of a meal.
It really makes you take control of your eating without getting obsessed with points, which is what happened to me on the Weight Watchers diet.
A friend of mine did his mental exercise to stop eating chocolate and since then she has never touched it.
Try brushing your teeth when the cravings are strong, that can help.

I haven't heard of B Greene.
I will check him out.
What I find really helpful if I am on the go is to make large batches of sauces that go with rice and pasta and freeze them in single portions.
This has helped me maintain a balanced diet while not having much time.
Quorn, tofu are both low in fat and are really tasty in a tomato based sauce.

You can bank points for the end of the week, I am trying hard not to use them up...I seem to and then go over some. I have a friend who does WW and I cant afford it so she copies materials for me. I really only use it for the point system because counting calories is so time consuming! I like Bob Greenes philosophy and am following his website..I ordered the book 3 weeks ago and some jerk on Amazon still hasnt sent it. I really cannot afford much in the way of materials and such...and its really hard because I have a limited budget for my own food because I while I do cook healthy for my children I also need some quick stuff on hand for whatever arises! Thanks for your comments and I think brushing my teeth each time I want to snack outof my points will definately help! Thanks!

Bob Greene is Oprahs diet guy. The stuff he says is really simple and easy to follow. Like the first month is just a few simple things. Like not eating 2 hours before bed, drinking a glass of water with every meal...simple stuff!

I'm on WW as well. I'm in my first few weeks as well. You've lost 10 pounds....way to go!!! Don't let the weekends beat you!! I eat when I'm bored, and I find it really hard also. I make a big bag of Smart Pop popcorn.. You can eat a ton of that with very little points. When you get the feeling to binge, put on your coat, and walk around the block. Stick with it, and good luck!!

Thanks for the encouragement! The popcorn is also a great idea. I cant walk around the block till itsa little warmerso I can drag kiddos with me, but I intend to as soon as possible! I think using the WW points is the best thing I've ever done...its not reall a diet...its anew way of eating. I know women who know point totals of evrything without looking! So it is a way of life! Thanks again!

what you usually do in weekends???are idle? or are with your family where in you can see them eat all stuff they want to...well try telling your family members to eat in their room so that you will not be tempted in eating too...have some activites that will make you sweat even more in this mannner even if you rested from your diet food...it will still burn the calories in your body...i have been into dieting but no success what i do now is i jsut eat when im hungry and very moderately....and it helps..plus the activities i engaged in which will make me sweat all over...

I am busy an the weekends running after my three babies....Since it is just the four of us I cook them very healthy meals so I dont have to be tempted. I stay busy cleaning up after them, not enough that I'm sweating. They are very active and the age where mom has to play all time too. I find myself dancing ALOT to their favorite songs and videos. I just need to find the time I guess to do something I know is raising my heart rate! Thanks for the response!

Just be really, really disciplined. Your stomach may feel that is is hungry, but it is really all in your mind. Mind over matter is very powerful and it works when you focus on controlling your mind. You are not hungry and the sooner you train your stomach all the way you will be less hungry because your stomach will be trained to eat at certain times of the day. So just keep it up and I commend you for being on it for two weeks. Some try for that long and or longer and make it only 2 days. So congratulations on that and just mind over matter. Like you said you know you can lose more than the 10 so just imagine how much you can lose and tell yourself to take over and control and discipline and you will acheive your diet goals. Good Luck

Thank you for so much encouragement! I was worried there might be some mean responses, what a great bunch of people MyLotters seem to be! I know there are times I eat when I am not hungry, just bored! This is my biggest battle on the weekends. Thank you again!

Its not that I dont have energy...or that I need to get up. I never stop moving on the weekends because of my kids. My problem is snacking here and there...eating bigger portions than I should because the kids dont eat all their food and I finish theirs off as well! I take a multi vit. so that has Vit. B along with other important Vit. ...Thanks for your response though!

I am the type who eats when I am bored. I tend to get a little bored on the weekend because my normal everyday routine is not in function. I have noticed that when I think about food I get a bottle of water and drink it and then I am pretty good. But for some it does not work... so go get some rice cakes, apples, oranges etc. cut that up and snack on that all day. your points may be a little off but you are still being healthy. Good Luck and congrats on the wieght loss... i should get my booty up and doing something. Oh yea and working out is a good thing too... so u get hungry or the snack vibe just go on a walk or workout.

I unfortunately don't have any advice. I'm overweight so I need advice. I'm home all day so my problem is night time. I get to 8 or 9 and I graze the kitchen looking for something to eat. Ice cream is usually the first thing I pick. I want to start a diet but I need the motivation to do it. I need the kick in the butt. 10 years ago I had lost a lot of weight and the key for me was doing it with a buddy. My neighbour and I were both dieting and both successful. I guess you try harder to keep up with someone else and you can talk the other out of binging if you are having a hard day.

1. Drink water
Water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off longer term.
Water acts as an appetite suppressant by keeping your stomach full and fending off dehydration which can lead to false cravings/hunger.
Water also helps your body metabolize stored fat by helping the kidneys flush out waste. When you don't drink enough water the liver which works to provide stored fat for energy helps the kidneys eliminate waste and becomes less effective at metabolizing fat.
Drinking water ice cold burns about 62 calories a day. Your body has to work to raise that waters temperature to your body's temperature. This equals around 430 calories per week.
2. Eat regularly
This means eating 5 times a day and the most important meal is breakfast.
Make sure you fuel your body first thing in the morning to avoid hunger pangs later in the day.
When you eat 5 times a day you will never feel hungry, make sure the total calories consumed are sensible and don't over eat in any of the meals learn portion size control!
3. Eat lots of fibre
Eating adequate fiber foods to help keep things moving through your bowel. And like water, fiber rich foods bulk you up and make you feel fuller for longer.
Fibre is found only in plant foods our bodies cant digest it to so it simply goes through the body. During the elimination process it cuts calories consumed by attaching to protein and fat that you eat along with it removes that as well
In addition, high fiber foods are typically low in calories and filling, so you are reducing your calorie intake overall.
Good fibre foods include: strawberries, apples, figs, chickpeas, potatoes, (with skins) broccoli, brown rice, beans, bran and nuts.
4. Consume more good fats
There are good fats and bad fats
Good fats provide you with essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids) needed for normal reproduction and growth, as well as for production of prostoglandin, a hormone like compound that regulates blood pressure, prevents blood clotting and lowers the risk of heart disease.
For example, the reason oily fish is a great food stems from the fact that the essential fatty acids which it contains can actually help your body burn fat more efficiently and protect against disease. Get at least three portions of oily fish a week with Salmon, mackerel, herrings and sardines being good choices. 5. Get plenty of quality protein
Quality protein is an effective weight control tool because of the satiety factor and its ability to keep you full for longer periods. It also balances out carbohydrates by preventing insulin spikes that cause energy loss and sugar cravings
Protein helps to maintain muscle mass which is important in the fat burning process.
Good choices include:
Fish, shrimps, Low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, skimmed milk, egg whites, s Weight gain is caused by consuming too many calories, whether they are from carbohydrate, protein or fat.
6. Carbohydrates can help you lose weight
Don't believe what you read about carbohydrates being bad for you, they can actually help you lose weight!
A diet containing good carbohydrates such fruits and vegetables, wholegrains and moderate in fat and calories, will result in weight loss
Good carbohydrates will also help you combat hunger pangs as they are slowly realized into the body.
When eating carbohydrates eat them "from the earth" with no refining or processing.
These include whole grains, vegetables; fruits and beans.
Sensible weight loss
If you have read the above you will see that it is not the food group, but the quality of the food in it that's important for fast weight loss.

I guess i am pretty average built and slim,,,so presently there is no need for dieting as such ..I would say that when u eat u msut be sure that appropriate amount of work is being done rather than just eating ,,,that is whatevr comes in should go out proportionately...

Drink water! Most of the time people mistake being hungry for being bored or thirsty. So drink a glass of water and wait a half hour or so. If you're still hungry eat a healthy snack but drink water with it.

I used to take one day on the weekend where I could eat whatever I want. After doing that for a few weeks I started to notice that I didn't really have the desire to eat all that junk food. When I first start a diet I'm always thinking about the foods I can't have and that just makes me want them more.By allowing myself to enjoy any or all of those foods for just one day it helps to reduce my gravings for them and therefor I had no problem sticking to my diet even on the weekends.

I have exactly the same problem as you. I'm fine during the day and then at night I have trouble overcoming the temptation to eat. I've found that it helps to keep busy, do activities where you won't want to eat. I've also had to stop buying extra food. It's practical for me because I only have to feed myself (no children) so I just buy what i need for meals and then lots of fruit and veg so if i need to snack i just eat that.
Sometimes there is no way to avoid temptation and you just have to stop yourself giving into it, which is in my opinion the most difficult thing.
Goodluck and well done on the weight that you've lost!

Well, I think you should get out of the house or get away from the food. If you feel like eating, go to the park or the mall or go workout. I also get on the computer when I'm bored b/c then I won't eat. Also, make sure you aren't starving when you eat something. You will tend to binge.

i must commend you for your effort, but i guess u need to more. If the culprit is boredom, you must find ways to keep yourself busy all the time. Find a new a hobby, like gardening, painting, sewing...whatever that will catch your attention and interest. The thinng is if your keep your fingers busy, surely they won't find time to put something in your mouth.

A technique that works is everytime you eat something you have to put fifty cents in a jar. If you eat a lot on the weekends this money will grow fast. Once you start seeing the money disappear from your pocket you will want to stop eating because as long as you keeping eating on the weekends you are required to add the fifty cents and you can not spend it. If you're married ask your husband to make sure you don't touch the money jar. To make it even more difficult if after you've gathered enough fifty cents in the jar to make twenty bucks someone in your family gets to spend that money. Now wouldn't you rather spend that money on you or on something you really need. This method has worked several times I had to create it and test it for my Psychology class. (Remember everyone is different it may or may not work for you.)
