Just what is it about this popular puzzle that keeps one hooked? I've been playing Sudoku for a while now and I just can't last a day without at least solving one puzzle. I love the way it makes us THINK and really THINK. To quote a friend of mine, Sudoku's like heroin, very addictive and highly entertaining. How long have you been playing this game and what do you like most about it?

I love these puzzle too, I print a few up everyday for the older kids I watch, They love them too, my 5 yr old son, is even starting to get into the craze. And I find myself wanting to do them. It's like your mind craves the challenge.

I agree. Solving these puzzles are something I look forward to everyday. Do you have a favorite site that you get these puzzles from?

Do you play online? Or do you have books? Or do you just rely on newspapers?

I'm always doing crossword puzzles etc, monthly puzzler books etc, keeps the brain active and keeps me occupied whilst the commercials are on, or I'm waiting around, but I always used to avoid the Sudoku puzzles until my mum gave me the time to teach me how to do them, since then I've been hooked. I won't rest till I've completed it. They do get addictive I very much agree with you, and entertaining definitely. Don't you just hate it when you get to a 'mental' block and you're trying desperately to put the next number in but there are many alternatives! That's why I use a pencil and pen, just in case, once you put a wrong number in, it throws you completely.

Brownies for you! Thanks for the response. I dislike having "mental block" as well. What I do is, I take time off. Leave the table and do something else like drink a glass of water or something. Then when I go back at the puzzle, I have a clearer picture of how to solve it!

Actually my wife got me started on Sudoku. We've both been doing puzzles for a little over a year. For me it's just something help pass the time, but for her i think it's something like meditation where she can sit down and clear her mind of everything but the numbers, and it helps both of us relax. I'd rather do that than get sucked into TV any day.

I share your wife's opinion. It's more like meditation for me and I just love the feeling of not being too caught up with things...that for a few precious minutes, you can just concentrate on numbers, the logic of solving the puzzle and nothing else. Come to think of it, I haven't been watching tv that much ever since I got so hooked up on Sudoku! Have you bought books or just rely on newspapers?

i think it's fun cos it looks so simple. just a grid with some numbers filled in. so it's the challenge of being able to do it fast that keeps me hooked.
i suppose it helps the time to pass faster too. i see people doing these puzzles on the public transport, esp if they have to sit in one place for more than half an hour.
i usually try to challenge myself by doing the harder ones instead of the elementary ones. once you read a few books on strategies and scanning techniques, you realise that it can be quite challenging and fun and there are so many things you didn't think about!

It is just like playing with numbers, but with your brain.A wrong entry can make the whole game wrong. So, one should be attentive while playing. Thus, it is one of the best way to make concentration. So, keep playing
