Sometimes i backed up my harddisk whenever i installed new software or new application, because i don't want anything harm my computer. When my harddisk in low space, I usually backed up my data in the DVD as i have dvd writer so i can make data DVD.

Windows XP has a great tool to backup ur HD..
Even if ur Windows is correpted or some system files r lost or and software problem , u can use the tool called as System Restore.
You can find it in Control PanelSystem
there is a Tab for System Restore ,
Xp keeps some of the space and monitors it.
So just go there and when ever u find that ur Windows is running good ,just save a restore point in the System Restore.
now when u do that , now even if ur Windows get crashed.
just restart the PC and press F8 till u see some commands .
u will get a option for Run previouly System Windows.
and ur Windows is started...

Backing up disk require much space and time.It is due to extra space it needed for that purpose. This is a time taking job if the ram of PC is not sufficient.Backup of harddisk also require much space in the harddisk.Due to this reason i always not backup my disk.I have make off this option from mycomputer properties.I think backup of disk is not necessary for home computer. This is required in those computer which is used for business purpose or the server. If your harddisk space is not sufficient as per rules then you need to turn off system backup and restore.

hmmm, I think thats depends on every people, for me that allready orginise all my files everytime I download or get new files, for me backing up is just wait till the space of one dvdr is almost full than I starting to backup, or sometimes if I get lazy backing up, I wait till my harddisk space is critical (often like this T__T).

Probably not as regularly as I should but I do have my important files copied to a disk, CD's and DVD's.

In the decade that I've used computers, I'v never ever backed up :-) Yes, that practice lead to several bad experiences related to data loss but I never learned my lesson. I just find the process tedious even with today's supposedly "easy to use" backup systems.

At Christmas I bought myself an external (USB) 250GB hard-drive, it came with backup software which runs itself daily. you just choose the folders you want backed up and it runs daily, weekly or whatever. It only saves changes, so on a daily basis it takes about 15 seconds to run and it is timed to take place at 3am. You can get 400GB external hard drives now for less than UKĀ£90 (US$165) - instant peace of mind...and you don't have to remember to do it (also there is no pile of CDR's gathering dust in my office)

yes i do backup my harddisk regularly, it is very much important for me to have a backup of my files just in case my pc crashes i still have all my important files safe and secure and ready to be used again. I use a cd and another harddisk as a media for my backups. i also use a freezing software for added protection for my pc.
