KEWASKUM, Wis. - Police Chief Richard Knoebel says he wasn't about to take the easy way out when he accidentally drove past a stopped school bus with its emergency lights flashing.
For violating traffic laws, Knoebel wrote himself a ticket for $235, docked himself four points on his driving record and paid the fine the next day.

This actually really surprised me. My opinion of most law enforcement individuals, isn't very high. I've seen cops use lights just to get through a stoplight and then turn them off, I've seen them flip on their lights going 80 to pull into Pizza Hut and come out with a pizza. Generally my opinion of MOST, not all, police officers is that they have power to abuse. So it's nice to see one who doesn't, and gives me hope for others who won't.

I agree with you. I hope it gets others to thinking more along these lines. I think he did it for many good reasons and I respect him for it. If even one person in sevice follows suit it will help make a difference, and hopefully many will pay attention and learn from this.

I saw this article on news this morning and it may help to give a plus for the bad publicity the police are earning for themselves.

Oh, wow! It gives me a lot more faith in the world and in society in general to read uplifting news stories like this one! I don't know if I could have even been that honest. I mean, that's a lot of money that he had to ticket himself for.. my gosh. And from what you said here, what he did was an accident in the first place! I think that the city should give him back his money, if you want to know what my thoughts are. He did the right thing, and he said that he drove by that bus as an accident, and I think that it would be a great thing if he were given his money back. ^_^

This was surprising to hear as this probably does not happen very often where an officer gives himself a ticket. That was very honest of him to do that and it shows he made a mistake and did not let it go. He sets a very good example for the rest of us that he would do something like that. He made an honest mistake by passing the stopped school bus. I bet most cops would not do such a thing if they passed a bus.

I hope all the officers see this all over the world... I think this man does deserve credit because he came forth on his own and he paid his fine the next day.

That is very honest, but was it really necessary? Police officers also speed, but I'm sure he doesn't give himself a ticket for that too. At least we know there's one honest cop in this world. :P

I think it's a very honest and admirable thing to do, and also pretty humourous. I don't think I've ever heard of a policeman ticketing himself before.
