I'm just curious what most people here do to earn money besides being on Mylot. Myself, I am mostly a waitress in a breakfast restaurant. I also do the dishes and occasionally do some small cooking tasks. Aside from that, I do the normal teenager thing which is babysitting, and also some cleaning for relatives.

I'm an administrative assistant in the psychology department at a large university. My degree is actually in Applied Theatre Arts, so in my spare time I stage manage for a couple of local theatre companies and coordinate events (like fundraisers/galas). In the fall, I will be pursuing my Master's degree and hopefully (if I survive the Master's program) onto my PhD in Theatre History and Criticism. I really want to teach Theatre History/Script Analysis at the college level.

Theatre... I am so jealous. If I were not pursuing languages, I feel like theatre might have been what I went for. And best of luck with your Master's!

I am a chef! For four years, man. But you already knew that. :P I just wanted to respond to your post, really. In the navy, I shall be (or at least my contract says...) that I will be a Cryptological Technician. But I really want to fly planes. :P

Way to be in the navy, Ker. Haha, kidding (probably). I am honestly finding out about the flying thing for the first time. Why don't you share these things with me? Why do I find them out from the internet?

A chef! My husband used to be a chef. That is some hard work, and never a weekend or mother's day off. :) What's a cryptological technician?

I clean! Offices, smokerooms, breakrooms, restrooms and houses. Working nights right now and that is fine by me. Currently hubby and I take turns and as long as there is this cold snap and my body has stiffened he takes my place until it becomes 20 degrees or so. I also have an Ebay store and sell on half.com and then I trade books on the paperback trading site. Homeschool the kids though that doesn't pay me money. You have a good start at a long working career!

Wow, I really respect people who do difficult work like that. On behalf of anyone who hasn't said this to you, thank you for the work that you do :). It's also great that you and your husband can work together as a team. Also thank you very much for your response.

A cousin of mine used to be a telemarketer; I hope that you don't have to deal with the kind of people she had to deal with sometimes. They were very, very rude to her.

I've encounted that everyday. But I don't take it too personally. There is nothing we can do, they are very rude to us; that's the real them. We can't change them. It's very hard, but exciting.

I'm a civil litigation attorney working in a small private defense firm. I love my job so far (I'm still a newly minted attorney), especially because I essentially get to solve riddles all day. I do a lot of research and writing in my job- in fact, I do A LOT of writing, in legalese and otherwise. It's a great career and there are so many different areas to go into!

I work as a transcript clerk in the registrar's office at a small Jesuit university. It's not the most thrilling job, but they pay for me to take 6 hours of grad school a semester.

That's a great perk. A pal of mine did something similar in law school, and she had a large portion of her law school tuition paid.

I work part time at a local pizza place called Firehouse Pizza. I write some on Associated Content (there's a link in my profile) and do a little bit of babysitting to make a few extra dollars when I'm not getting enough hours at Firehouse.

I work in the public sector in finance, although i have a degree in geography! I kind of fell into my job because I started there as a temp just working a few hours a day during the summer and the then management team liked me and thought I showed potential so I was made permanent in 2001. Since then I have worked my way up the ladder, a little at least, but have decided to leave because I feel my work is no longer appreciated among many other reasons.

That, to me, sounds like a very interesting job. We very briefly touched on personality disorders in Psychology, and it was the topic I was the most interested in. I think you're doing very important work - thank you for sharing!

I am a stay at home mom. I used to be a surgical technician. I set up the sterile environment, handed the surgeon instruments, retracted skin/organs, stapled and sometimes did the suturing. It was a great job but the call time after hours was exhausting. I missed alot of holidays with my son because of it. Now I'm home to enjoy my kids.

And that's what's most important ::nods in agreement::. My father used to work late hours and be away from the family. He made good money, but it wasn't worth it to not see his kids growing up.

I agree that it is most important for students to study. Their degree will be very important to them in the future when they are seeking a job, so of course they shouldn't blow off their studying in favor of having a job now. Thank you for sharing your input!

I work at Old Navy. I'm a cashier, but also I can work Fitting Room, Sales Floor, Etc. I like it alot, and it's a much easier and less stress job then I have ever had. I'm expecting my second baby this summer, and I feel just fine there. They are a great company to work for, Gap Inc. I don't do anything high stress or anything. It has also helped me lose weight! I like it and I like the people!

You shouldn't say you're a "simple" house wife. There's nothing simple about cleaning, cooking, helping the kids with homework. Be proud of what you do for your family! There's lots of kids out there that just wish their mom and dad could be home to help them thrive and grow.

I currently work at a large hardware/department store, as customer service rep/cashier, because I really needed something to do to pay the bills. However, my ideal career is in wildlife biology, to put my BSc Animal Biology to good use, so I'm always on the lookout for more conservation-related jobs.

I consider college to be my "full time occupation." No, it doesn't make me any money now, but hopefully it will in the future. And right now, it's the most important thing going on in my life. But, a college gal's still gotta eat, so when I'm not at classes, I work in the Starbucks at SuperTarget. That's right...I support America's #1 addiction.
