Who has their lovers name tatooed on their arm?

Have you ever wondered why we do this? In the middle ages young people drew names from a bowl to see who their valentine would be. They then wore this on their sleeve for one week and so the saying to wear your heart on your sleeve arose. It now means it's easy to see who you have feelings for.

Thanks rainbow but I will stick to the name on my sleeve for a week lol. I have a deep aversion to all tattoos, and have had this aversion all my life. I don't make this feeling clear to my friends who do have tattoos, obviously as it is their decision and none of my business. When a lady or gentleman reaches a certain age and the skin starts to sag and stretch some of these tattoos look absolutely hideous, and I think that is where my initial aversion comes from, a rather smelly and untidy relative with these horrid flappy tattoos! However, I LOVE the idea of the heart on the sleeve and it was really interesting to know where that came from, thank you!

yes, some of the old fashioned blue tattoos look awful. I would only have my kids names, but it's nice to know where the idea originated isn't it!

I think the original idea is lovely and it would be nice to see people wearing tokens on their sleeves again. Tattoos, though, not for me lol.

My dolphin has my sons name on it, still looking for a bear for the other one, wouldn't want a partner written on me forever either, just in case, lol.

I would never do that. The only person's name I would get tattooed on me is my mom's.

Well that's better than your arm! Have you ever worried abougt what would you woud do if you fell out? I thinks it's very romantic and touching, but I wouldn't want my partners name even after 7 years and 2 kids.

No, I've never tattooed a lover's name to my arm or any other body part. In fact I have no tattoos, but have often contemplated having my three daughters names tattooed to my ankle, maybe forming a permanent anklet.

I never knew that's where that saying came from. Very interesting. I'm afraid of tatooes, I hate needles lol. But if I would get one I would have my husbands name with a celtic knot. I think it's kinda romantic.

I have my sons name on my shoulderblade but never likedthe idea of making a boyfriends name a permanet part of my life - what if he went off me - I'd have to have partners with the same name, lol.

No. I have a tattoo but not of a name and I don't think I would get one on my arm. Maybe a tiny one someplace that not everyone can see...

Never knew that. Just goes to show that there's always something new to learn. And to respond to your specific question, I don't have any tatoos - never saw the point.

I think it's probably sensible not to have tattoos unless you are really sure what you want, I have 2, one has my older sons name on it, I haven't found the right one for my younger son yet. I just thought it was an interesting Valentines story and decided to share it with my friends, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I don't. I did that once with temporary tattoo but then it stuck and hurt so much to peel off. Since then wedding ring and necklace with his picture is all I wear.

How lovely, I've never had a locket. I have my sons name on my shoulderblade but it's not quite the same thing really.
