I have a 3 year old son and he was kind of hyperactive by his age but I really think I can't categorize him having a ADHD and make him under meds because his body is to young for various high dosage meds. I really think I have to help him out personally by teaching him proper decorum and proper manner and in some way he will able to manage his attitude and his playful habits. He is a intelligent boy who talks fluently at age 2 that's why I really don't want to consider him having a ADHD because it is so natural for kids to be playful. Don't worry to much my friend I really think the one who can tell us about it is the school teacher and they will advised us to see a pedia to check our kids.

My son was diagnosed with ADD when he was 7. He's not hyperactive, just acts like a boy. The Dr's and teachers recommended meds, I didn't agree for a year. He barely passed 2nd grade. I worked all summer with him and I thought he was doing good. But the next school year, we had the same problems and ended up trying Adderall 10 mg. Huge difference. He was never bad or difficult at home and has tons of friends. Just his school work suffered. He could not focus on what he was supposed to do. He doesn't take any meds on weekends, holidays, or summer break. He is still on the Adderall, now 20 mg, due to him growing. He is now in the 4th grade and is holding a "B" average.

i think thats great that he is doing so well. i do think the meds are good for some kids but i just think they are to quick to put them on them. i have a cusion that is 16 and still on meds. it does help him. my son was just 4 when they wanted to put him on them. i think its crazy anymore with all the meds. yes my son my need them but not right now. he is a boy and he is doing good in school and they are not having problems with him so i don't see why i should put him on them. yes he can be hard to deal with sometimes but hes not at school yet anyway and at home me and his dad have to deal with him. so i just feel as long as he is good in school and doing good in school then it should be our choice to deal with him here at home. he has never gone to a sitters for anything. i am just not so sure he needs them right now.when he gets older and a little harder to handle then we will see but right now i don't think he needs it. i like that you only have your son on it when he has school. i really don't think that all that med for a child could be good for them. thank you for sharing

Please don't let your son suffer by not getting him the help he needs. Have you seen a doctor for a diagnoses. I would suggest a child psychiatrist rather than his pediatrician. Even if the ADHD diagnosis is confirmed, that does not mean that you are required to put him on medication. Not all people with ADHD need medication, but many do. And not all doctors will suggest mediction. Please don't believe all that hype. Please do some research on the negative consequences of not medication children who need it. My heart just goes out to all those children who need help but don't get it because of people's misconceptions.
