Threading

If there would be any suggestion/request that I would make to mylot.com, it would be to consider adding THREADING to discussions... therefore, if a response to the discussion causes a new thread to develop, people could keep a CONVERSATION going, rather than just responding directly to the original discussion statement. Somehow, those who instigated a new thread should get some kind of credit for that. But, if the purpose of these discussions is to have meaningful, quality conversations, then there has to be an expansion of the format so that people will keep a conversation going rather than just running around posting replies to a discussion topic.
We have a lot of very engaged and interesting people here who can bring great perspectives to a conversation .. that should be stimulated.
Do you have any ideas how threading could be accomplished by mylot? And, do you see the value of adding threading?

I have never seen this done. I wonder if it would defeat the whole purpose of staying on topic here. I know satying on topic is important here at my lot. How exactly does threading work? You would several discussions in one? Wouldn't that take away from the original discussion? Anyway it may not have got a lot of responses because most people may be like me and not understand what it is.

Dan people want to be heard and not all but alot of people just care about getting ratings so they don't see the point in conversation.

How can there be a conversation when there cannot be a reply to a response? The whole concept of a "discussion" here is someone posting a discussion topic .. then everyone responds to that .. there is no discussion .. it is just a bunch of responses to the original post. A conversation includes responses to various participants too, not just to the original poster.
OK ... let me say it this way .. #1 posts the topic. #2 replies .. #3 responds to #2. But, no one can reply directly to #3! End of discussion .. no conversation. Who says the "discussion" has to stay "on topic" according to the original poster? How does that equate to a discussion/ conversation?

Andrea, I see that and understand that. However, I think that the rating system could work on a conversation model too .. and, it would make mylot more of what it is supposed to be about .. real discussions.

This is an excellent idea, Care2.com does it so we know it is doable. I bet if Management would ask nicely Care2.com administrators would be happy to help. Then we could more easily and be more apt to attend to the discussions we repond to. There is a value and it would improve this experience in more ways than the graphics of the latest upgrade!

Yes, I agree with you. One of the problems now is that you cannot directly apply to a response to a post .. there needs to be a separate "post comment" button for EACH response, so that we can reply directly to a specific post that has responded to another post. huh?

I can't believe this didn't get more feedback. But, I'm glad for your response .. it shows that great minds think alike.

Belonging to the other site makes me wish for it. We do see things similarly. Also would have loved to see more participation since this would be a definite improvement here. Thanks for picking me best response.

I think you do have a point there and I will agree with you on that. I think that would help the discussions out alot. Let's hope they will do that someday.
