Save or spend? Which do you do?

Ok - I admit it! I am a "shopaholic". If I have money in my pocket I find it burns a hole in it, and I find it very hard to save money, if I can spend it instead!!! I know I ought to be more careful, and "save for a rainy day", but my philosophy is more "live fot today". As long as my mortgage is paid, so I have a roof over my head, that is all that matters. So how about you? Are you a saver or a spender?

I am a little of both, but I do love to spend. And I have the bills to prove it, LOL!

I think i do a bit of both really. I put some of the money i make into my savings account and i also give myself a bit to spend. You only live once! It's nice to be able to have the things you want and i won't be in debt till next year so i think i should enjoy it while i can!

I have to admit I was a spender and wasn't beyond going over my limits to spend and I got US into a lot of financial difficulties. It took us a few years to clean up the mess I made but now we don't go beyond our means and life is much less stressful.
Wish I had of been a bit wiser before my heart attack. :)
But I am still a spender, just have limits now.

Well best thing is, that you are recovered now, and seem to have found a happy medium. I admit, my partner is pretty good with saving and being careful with money - otherwise I would probably be in a bad mess!

yes it's true that you can't take your money with you but atleast you can make your life worthwhile by helping other people from poor countries or even the locals in your country who might need some assistance. take care dude!

I do try to save as I don't have that much spare cash anyway so I need to save towards any emergencies.
At the moment I need to get one of my raditors fixed so I'm saving for that.

I do try hard to save, but because I am not currently working, I am having to dig into my savings, which I can't avoid, I've always been more of a saver and will save for emergency occasions like my current predicament, the trouble is you can't replace the money you've taken out of your savings account. I do not have a mortgage thankfully, just the bills and the rent. Once I get back to work I will start saving again and replacing slowly what I have withdrawn. I am very economical with my money, but I don't watch every penny, if there is something I see that I would love (money permitting) I will buy it for myself.

I'm a saver at the moment as i've just spent all of my savings on putting a deposit together for my house. I always like to put a little bit away for a rainy day and feel a bit stressed if I know that I don't have some money set aside to cushion any potential crises'. However, I can be an impulsive spender too, I spend quite a lot of my time saving and then suddenly i'll go through a spending phase and blow a load of money in one go. I like your philosophy on life though, and even though I save, I never go without anything I need and still treat myself to meals, days out, shopping trips, etc. So I think I make the best of both worlds really.

Your house is the biggest single thing you will probably ever buy. And though I am a "spender" I do always mkae sure I have the money for the mortgage. I couldnlt bear to lose my lovely home. Good Luck with yours.

i do save and wait for a good day and go on a spree spending.so it would be safe to call it not saving.if i have a little money i see to that i save it up till i get a huge sum and burn it out.:-) and as you said buddy live for every moment and thats what i exactly believe and who knows what may happen tommorow.maybe we can start saving up when we have a family of our own and have commitments to attend to.:-)

I used to spend so much before and been using credit cards as well. As I looked on my stuffs like clothes, purses, shoes, etc...I can see that some of them are not used yet. They still have a tag on them so I realized that I am like wasting my money for the stuff that I don't really need.
My philosophy is "Do not spend more than you make"...make sense?

It is good to spent wise because money is regarded as life and its up's and down.It is not stable.

I'm am a little of both. I work out a budget every month and before I ever buy anything extra, I make sure the bills are paid first. I have a small savings account in which I have enough money for a month (extra). This is in case of an emergency. Other than that, I try to save a couple of hundred dollars for extras during the month, then I spend whatever is leftover, which unfortunately is never that much, lol. But as long as my bills are paid, then I am happy.

I think you can instead work on a ratio between the two. It would work great and you can slowly correct yourself by moving in steps.

I actually want to spend my money but sometimes it becomes impossible to do what we want. I have to save so that i acan afford a good big thing for my self or for my most loved oned. I love giving gift taking the advantage of any issue to my most loved ones. But in the mean time ialso look after my bank balance which should be secured to a certain level. I dont spend lavishly as i know the value of money and i have learnt with experience that how should i utilize it safely but fruitfully. I think every one should maintain aratio between spending and saving accordingly with earning, lifestyle and money value. hope i am right....???

I am a shopaholic as well, but I make sure to have an automatic savings plan set up so that I always have something in the bank (even if I have to hide it from myself). I have an ing.com account that is great for savings- it takes several days to transfer funds over from it, so once money is in this account I tend not to take it back out. I also keep a few CDs in ing.com accounts as well to get a better rate on the interest.
Everything that I don't hide in my ing.com account or in my 401k where I don't have access to them- I use as my shopping budget. I've usually spent the remainder by the end of the month.
