What three books would you recommend every teenager should read before they reach their twenties?

No offense to teenagers, but I would rather give more credit to adults who have gone through practical experiences in life than teenagers with their fantasy which need no books to assist them with in that area.

Catcher in the Rye. To Kill A Mockingbird The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. ;) Kidding, I'll have to think about the third one, but the first two were books I read in high-school that I think proved very valuable in my development into an adult.

I would recommend teenagers read: Oxford's Guide to History Hamlet by William Shakespeare and a book about personal finances. I recommend Suze Orman. These three definately shaped my being and made me more aware of what is in the world.

I agree with everyone who said Catcher in the Rye - that's an amazing book, I think teenagers can learn a lot from it. I would also add Perks of Being a Wallflower. That's a good book, great for high schoolers. I would also add for young adolecents some of Lois Lowrey's books - like The Giver, Gathering Blue, and Messenger - great reads!

i only have one in mind, "the little prince" by antoine saint de exupery... it teaches everyone to nurture that little child in us and that the simplest things are those that make our lives complete and happy.

All teenagers should read the trilogy His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. The three book are excellent, so much better than Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. They are making them into a movie right now, but I know it won't be as good as the books.
