Hiccups!

Well, we've all had them at one point in time and we've heard of several different ways to cure them. Well I just had the hiccups and I cured them by pressing right above my eyes (above the eyebrow to be more helpful). Now they're gone. When I was younger I would eat peanut butter to be rid of them. What are your cures and have they worked?

My favorite cure by far: eating a packet or a spoonful of sugar. It usually works for me, but I have no idea why it would work.... Also, I like scaring people with hiccups, but in my experience this rarely actually works. I have friends who swear by drinking a cup of water upside down, but honestly, it seems too difficult for me....

oh. taking in a spoonful of sugar. that's not hard. i will try it, too. but drinking upside down, i can't really imagine myself doing it.

what works for me is holding my breath and then drinking a full glass of water while still holding my breath. that always works for me. it also works if you scare someone like a sudden loud noise or something that gives them a start. its happened to me. im not sure why that works though

we were told when we were small to drink out of the opposite side of the cup or glass , It did work only I think because we were concentrating so hard , xx

well the old "scare the hiccups away" never works! but there are other remedies i know of. like holding your breath is a somewhat effective one. and drinking salt water upsidedown is another (id rather suffer with them then drink the salt water! but it does work.)

The only way I've found to get rid of hiccups is to just breathe in and out slowly and evenly.Sometimes it also helps to do this while drinking water, breathe in as you're taking a sip and out as you swallow (all through your nose of course)

I get the hiccups at least once a day. My favorite cures are simply holding my breath, or drinking a glass of water while holding my breath. Always works for me.

i always suffer from hiccups and i hate it since i always get a hard time breathing. so, when just at home and suffering from hiccups, i just lie down in bed and relax awhile so i can breathe better. but when out like malling or meeting friends, i sit down awhile and not talk too much until hiccups' gone. and i will try that suggestion. thanks. will be really helpful for me!

I have never got hiccups that I have to look for remedies but I do have a lot of them in my kitty. Would check out if it works or no when I get it.
Relax, sit still and breathe in deep, slow, rhythmic breaths expanding and contracting your lungs completely.
Distract yourself. Sing a song, go over your 7 times tables (7 x 1= 7, 7 x 2= 14, etc) until the hiccups are gone,
Exhale completely and hold your breath for as long as possible.
Squawk like a chicken while flapping your arms and bobbing your head as if you were pecking at something. Bugawk!
Laugh. Think of something funny, or do something funny - see above.
Stand on your head and drink small gulps of water from a sports bottle.
Exaggerate your hiccups by inhaling right as you hiccup - this will result in a long and loud “huuuaaagggghhh” that’ll either be funny or embarrassing depending on your environment, but after 2-4 of these the hiccups should be gone.
Take a shot of lemon juice.
Let a teaspoon of sugar dissolve under your tongue.
Think of the ugliest person you’ve ever seen. Now picture them naked, rolling naked down a hill or riding a bike and slathered in A-1 steak sauce.
Eat some pickles.
Think the alphabet backwards as fast as you can.
Close your eyes, relax, still your mind and concentrate on nothingness until they’re gone.

I'm not sure how true this is, but I've heard, more like read that sticking out your tongue can help cure hiccups. You can either just stick it up, or stick it out and tug on it a bit. It's supposed to stimulate a nerve or something.
