My two grandsons have been living with us for 3 years now. With their mother dropping in to stay only when she needed a place to stay. We have been finically responsible for them this whole time. We have a PA, we feel with their mothers behavior, we feel the boys are better off living with us.

It sounds like the best place for them is with you. However, you do need to know that custody can ALWAYS be revisited. If you are sure that their mother is unable to get an attorney to challange the custody arrangement then you might do fine. You do not say if their mom is your daughter or your daughter in law? If you are just asking if the children are better off with you than a parent that is unable to meet her own needs, the answer is, WELL OF COURSE. However, if you are asking if this would keep her from taking the children out of your home, probably not if she can get someone to help her contest custody.

It sounds like they are where they should be...living with you and not their mother. I salute you for taking in your grandsons. You are special.

it needs to be what is best for the children and it sounds as if you are their real 'parents' in this case
