im single and since me and my friends started working.. it's been really difficult to get together and that leaves me no choice but to do a lot of things alone.. one of them is watching movies. my mom said i shouldnt do it because its not safe, most of my co-workers say i shouldnt do it because it looks pathetic. do you guys feel the same?

Most of the time, I go to movies alone. I don't know but it seems I can watch a movie better alone. I also go to movies with friends, albeit, rare. =)

I don't think there isn't anything wrong with going to the movies alone.Your mom is correct, it could be dangerous if you go late at night or you go to a remote movie house. Thay is why when I go to the movies, I go during the day.But I think your co-workers are wrong. It is not pathetic. It would be pathetic if you had a date to see a movie and the date didn't show so you saw the movie alone.

I do it all the time! I've never felt unsafe (but if you do, try to avoid the really late night movies) and who cares if people think it's pathetic? Chances are, people are too busy eating their own popcorn to pay attention to you. Just go and have a good time!

Being a teenager I have no problems finding friends to go with me. One time this kid nearish our age was at the movie. We had like one seat next to us open before the wall. So then just before it starts there sits another kid. We kind of started laughing because as a teenager I consider it a little bit, pathetic. I mean really what's the point of paying 10$ or so (ticket+concessions) to see a movie by yourself. If you have netflix or blockbuster program you can see the movie in like 3 months. Thats how fast the movies are coming out these days. I don't think it's safe either. I live in a bigger city and unless you get a close parking spot it's not smart at all. Theres a cop waiting around that's how unsafe it is. And this is Rochester Minnesota home of the mayo clinic and basically no real big ghetto. I think its more of a safety issue rather than an issue of does it look pathetic. I would try to go with somebody or just wait a bit to see it at your house. Not only is it safer cheaper but its also more fun to watch it when you can get people with you.

I primarily go to the movies by myself. It's not that I need the "silence" or the "lack of chatting with friends" to enjoy the movie, but sometimes the peace of sitting in a theatre by myself and taking in a movie is calming. Granted, I'm from a smaller city, so I don't have to worry too much about safety issues. When I move to a larger city centre, I'd have to do a bit more reconsidering.
The pathetic thing is lame, in my personal opinion. They rent movies and sit by themselves in their basement, how is going to a movie theatre any different? It's not like you're there to socialize. Most people consider the point of going to the movies is to see the movie, not to visit. Whether you do that with yourself or with 80 others, it's achieving the same goal.

I used to go to the movies alone quite often. I work evenings a lot, so I would go to the cheaper shows during the day when everyone else was working. I never had a bad experience going alone, nor did I feel "pathetic".
Now I have a boyfriend and a DVD player, so we usually watch movies at home; but if I really wanted to see something at the theater that he didn't, I would still go alone.

I always go to movies alone. I love watching movies so much, no one has the energy or money to keep up with me. And with finances being hard lately, I prefer to go alone than treat a friend, sorry but no friend has ever treated me in this lifetime hahaha... anyway I'm 32 and in college so my friends are usually 17 and 18 and can't afford to treat me yet. There is nothing wrong watching alone. I prefer it than with a date. When you're with a date, it's kinda cheap because the guy tends to do things to you in the movie, don't you agree? I suggest when you go alone, to be safe, to make sure you sit away from guys and men who are alone. Sit by a lot of women who are together. That's what I do. And when a guy is going to sit beside me or near me, I move away.

yes, i go to movies alone. there are times that i just want to be with myself. sometimes i prefer to watch a movie alone than with friends or family. i don't really worry if its safe or not because i'm a guy and also there is security guards in movie houses.

Don't listen to your co-workers, it is not 'pathetic' it has nothing to do with them if you choose to go to the cinema alone, I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I go to the cinema alone because I am into horror films and most of my friends are not. I see no wrong into going to the cinema alone, no interuptions! If you thought about the 'safety' aspect then you wouldn't go anywhere.
