How important is it to you?

So this is a question that I'm having a very hard time coming up with an answer and would like your input, especially from those that have left me previous responses. I feel that it is important to give a thank you to each person that responds to my discussions, how important is a reply to you? Think about it for a moment, you stopped by someones discussion and took the time to respond to their discussion with advise, an opinion, critisim, defense, ect.. do you want recognition for it? For me personally I just feel rude not responding. Can you give me your input regarding this? I appreciate all advise?

I always thank people for their input to my discussions, unless it´s a one line answer or something that doesn´t make sense. If it´s from somebody who is struggling with his English and I don´t understand his post, I will ask him/her politely what they mean.
I like to keep the discussion going. Another way of thanking people who have posted is to rate their answers.

Thank you for your response. I have a hard time with the one liners also. And if struggling with English then I have started asking what they mean also, very politely. :) I rate all answers according to mylot guidelines. I pick best response based on the response at the time of decision, unfortunetly the best response has come after already rating sometimes. :( Good luck to yu here at mylot!

Well because I am not in the States, many of the comments to my discussions come in when I am sleeping, so I admit I do not say "thank you" to everyone individually. However, I do read through all replies the next morning, and take the time to rate everyone who responds to me, and to choose a best response. Many people here seem so hung up about the money, that they just want to post mor and more topics without bothering to go back to their old ones, and I think that is rude too!

Thank you for your response. I agree that there are alot of discussions started everyday. I have been only doing one discussion a day now for that reason and that is what I plan to do. That way I can still respond to discussions and reply to my discussions responses. As for the money it is a bonus although I want to earn as much as I can, my first priority is having fun while maintaining integrity. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I make sure that respond to evry user considering his point of view when the number of responses are in the range of 10-20 but in cas of large responses say for about 80-100 i generally respond to first 20 and then randomize according to the ratings of user...it helps discussion to be alive...

A response if nice, but to be honest, sometimes when there are many pages, I find it frustrating to have to go and find my response, I wish myLot would put in an easier way to find your own response.

Thank you for responding and I so agree I hope they do come out with that too. I try to remember approximately how many responses had been given when I replied, for the most part I have been able to keep track. That will change the longer that I'm here though I'm sure. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I read every response to all of my discussions. I will comment on many of the responses. I rate each response to my discussions. Many of my discussions have a plethora of responses. Many times the response that is left to a discussion is similar to many other responses. I do not feel it necessary to leave a comment on every response that is received.

Thank you for your response. I have read many that say the same, that do to the number or quality that they don't respond to all who reply. I guess it is just a matter of what works for each of us individually. I rate all of my responses also. Good luck to you here at mylot!

Anytime I start a discussion - I always take the time to reply to each and every comment that is made on mine because not only can it keep the discussion going but I might want some more information from the person if I think they are providing helpful thoughts or advice that I would be interested in hearing more of.
That's just who I am - I truly enjoy reading each comment left whether they agree or disagree - everyone is entitled to their own opinion and sometimes it just makes it all more interesting when you respond to a comment and ask them something back and then they reply again!!!

Thank you for your response. I feel exactly the same way. I read everyones response and often ask addition questions. I enjoy trying to keep the discussion going. I feel that so long as I'm able to keep up and still post quality response to others discussions that it should be looked at a positve thing. I enjoy listening to other opinions even when they differ from my own. Knowledge is power, being as informed as I can is the only way to make an informed decision. Good luck to you here at mylot!

If the response is relevant and helps to move the discussion forwards, then I'll respond with a comment relevant to what they have said. If people just leave a oneliner which may not even be relevant, then I might just either leave a short thank you for responding, if the comment was even vuagely relevant, or just ignore it if not relevant. Hope this was helpful to you.

I would really love to have a response from the discussions that I have responded. But I can't expect that each one of the people here will do that, especially having toms of discussions being post everyday. It would be very hard for the author of the post to read each of the response. How can she/he will participate to other discussions or how they would post a new one.

When I first joined up with this site, I didn't always go back and leave a comment as I guess I just never really thought about it. Now however, I make an effort to leave a message of some sort, even if it's just Thanks, so that the people who responded knows I actually read their response. I love to keep discussions going as well so I find sometimes it helps to leave additional comments.

Thank you for your response. You make good point, by responding it also indicates that our discussion was read. I have seen many discussions that have pages and pages of responses to the discussion, but no replies after the first 1 to 3 pages. Were those responses even read? Thank you for another incentive for me to reply to all posts. Good luck to you here at mylot!

LOL Beanie. I know where this one comes from. Personally, I don't expect to be thanked for my answers. If someone does once in a while, it's nice but it doesn't change how I feel about the person. If my answer was a good one that really helps in some way, getting thanked tells me that. If it was just a regular response, not something special, I may feel that the person is just trying to boost their own image. No, I don't feel that way about you, Beanie.
But as I said in another discussion, mylot doesn't want us to reply to every response in our discussions. I don't know why, unless it's just that much more burden on the system without adding anything useful. And I think you're going to get very tired of trying to keep up with all the responses. But it's good to think about it.

Thank you for your response LOL and you are partly correct in where this topic came from but another discussion made me decide to post this discussion. I hope you check back as I'm going to provide the link for you to go and read, if you could provide feed back it would be greatly appreciated. I don't think bad of others for not replying except if I have asked a question or advise of some sort and they didn't respond back, as I wonder if they even read my discussion and whether I was even rated for my reply. For me though I just feel rude to not reply, maybe I will get over it I don't know but for now I will have fun with it. I appreciate the humor this morning and mean nothing negative at all. :) Here is the link: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/720158.aspx Good luck here at mylot!

I read the article you linked to, and while it's well written and useful, it's all about the money and the hard work to get it. It makes it all sound so grim. I'd like to earn more than I do, but not at the cost of enjoying my time here.

I do agree with you their that the fun should be the most important part and everything else should fall further down on your personal agenda. I was referencing the part that he said "mylot wants us to reply to all responses." I can't find anything one way or the other in mylot guidelines am I overlooking it?

sorry i misread your question if someone responds to your discussion, then it would be polite to answer, but if like you say the responses get out of hand and you feel that you are repeating the same thing over and over again you could either go to your first response and thank everyone who responded or thank everyone in a new discussion

It's important but then again, it isn't. Confusing, eh? I feel I should respond to replies in some way. Then the TOS come into play. We're not supposed to reply with 1 liners or just a thank you. Some replies don't really need to be responded to, while others do. I guess I would have to say, it depends on what the reply is. God help me if I ever started a discussion that got a lot of replies. LOL I feel it's rude not to respond too, but I don't want to be dooped by mylot for breaking any rules.

That is an excellant discription of eactly how I feel. I feel completely rude not saying anything. (Sorry I have been on a sabatical, lol, from mylot for quite sometime. Tring to get caught up) I also don't like to break the rules. Yes it's very frustrating when you get a lot of responses on a discussion and then have to go back and respond to all, it's utterly exhausting. The chance you take when starting a discussion. :) We should all have that problem.

The only time it would matter to me is when I have a question and someone doesn't respond to it, that is when I take it personally. I don't think it is rude if you don't thank everyone that responded to your discussions, unless you have something to add and didn't, then that is a different story.

Beaniefanatic, I don't know if anyone has yet mentioned this but if you look under the guidelines of the site, you are not supposed to write back to everyone just to thank them. I think that it is okay to write back if you have more to say than just thank you, but you could potentially get in trouble for just saying thank you.
I don't mind if people don't reply to me. In fact, only about 10% of the time do I even make it back to look at topics that I reply to. Mostly if they are really close friends of mine on the site, I will go back to see if they replied. To me it's not that important to get a reply, but I think that it is really, really sweet that you want so much to reply to everyone. I like to reply to my discussions, too, lately, but I didn't used to do it as much as I am now. I really figure that most people don't even come back looking, anyway. but some do, and it's fun to reply when I have something to say back! ^_^

Thank you for responding. I will go back to the guidelines again. One of the disussions I was in yesterday was talking about the top 20 things to do at mylot and one of them stated that mylot wanted you to reply to all responses. One other person here has told me that mylot doesn't want us to reply. Hence this discussion. I just keep getting conflicting information. If I can't resolve it here in the discussions, I think I will send a personal note to mylot for clarification. :) Thank you again, I really do enjoy replying, but at the same time I don't want to get into trouble either. I have enjoyed my new star today. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I do find it nice and respectful but not important and i find it very hard to reply to all of them as sometimes i have 100 responses in 48 hours i would spend all ma time thanking everyone and not doing anything else and i dont think i should have to do that really.... I do appreciate all that respond to my discussions though and i think i make it obvious by replying to theirs not saying thank you on my own

Thank you for responding. Deveral people have said the same, and yes I do think that is a great way of saying thank you by visiting others discussions and responding. i try my best to respond to at least one friend's discussion..i really do my best..i rate everyone that replies to mine..even if it is one line..as they made the effort to bother to post in mine..i had someone make over 20 posts yesterday on my friend's list but i couldn't go through all of them..so i feel it is a balance we have to reach..i am limiting myself to around three posts a day of my own..so i don't become a burden to my friends by overposting..and i try to reply to each friend..so i do my bit for them ..i reslly feel happy if people pist me a reply..not for the money..the fact thast i perhsps could contribute something..

Thank you for responding and yes I've noticed that you have left thank you's for me. I don't know if I feel it necessary for others to thank me, just for me to thank others If I asked a question, or asked for clarification, or additional advise I often wonder when I leave those types of comments if they were even read and whether they rated my response. For me it is just a personal choice that I feel at this time I just can't not thank some one for responding. Good luck to you at mylot!

I personally find it polite to reply ... but on saying that sometimes it's extremely hard to write something for a reply when the comment is only a handful of words.
Most people don't reply simply because MyLot make it clear in their terms of discussion that you don't get paid for replying to comments on your posts - so you just get another point next to your name and that's it.

Thank you for responding. You actually don't get anything from replying to responses, your number next to your name doesn't go up and you don't get paid. For me I feel it is just courteous to say thank you. :) Good luck to you here at mylot!
