There is a cost for listing your item.
There is a commission fee on the final price you sell it for.
When listing your item, eBay will propose you many features to enhance and promote your listing. Each one of those features cost extra money.
If you are selling items for more than $20.00 ... the cost of eBay is worthwile. But if you are selling small items like stamps for $2.00 each... then it is not so good.
Using Paypal also increase your chances of selling. But if people pay you with a credit card via PayPal... PayPal will also charge you a transaction fee to process the credit card.
So... if you were selling an item for $2.00 ... between the listing, the commission and the credit card fee... it could cost you almost $1.00
All the information about costs can be found on eBay and PayPal.

I sold something a few months ago,and they charge you a small fee to list the item. it was worth it because I got a good price for the game I was selling. Good luck with it!

This is one reason I didn't start selling until recently. I thought I'd have to pay up front to sell. I list an item and when it sells, the buyer pays my paypal for the item and the shipping charge. I can then use the paypal money to print the shipping label (USPS postage) and just mail the box. Or I can take it to the post office and pay cash to mail it. Then I keep the shipping $ in my paypal acct. Every month or so, ebay will send you an invoice for their fees (listing, extra pictures, etc) and you can have that taken right out of your paypal. So if you sell stuff, you never have to pay anything from your real pocket unless you want to. I just let paypal handle it all.

Selling on eBay costs a fee thats right but it's no more fun if you didn't get the thing sold because the fee is charged anyways but you didn't got the thing away for money so if you got something that you didn't got away it's risky to try it again and again because it'll cost you every time you try...

that's the point why I don't like ebay that much, because if you want to get something away you never know if the one who would have bought it just thought it's to expensive or if the buyer just wasn't finding it. So you would have to re-insert it over and over again and make only more loss. I think they should only charge the money if you sold it.

The only thing you have to pay for is the shipping to ship the item to the person that will win the auction.
