What do you do when you hit a knitting funk?

I love knitting, and yarn, and all things related to knitting. Although lately I'm having trouble getting motivated, despite the fact that I have a custom piece that I should be working on (I have a customer waiting for it). What do you do when you get into a "funk" and find it hard to movitvate on your knitting projects?

Who are you kidding? You knit in your sleep. YOu can't even count sheep to get to sleep because the wool makes you think of yarn and then you get too excited to sleep. You are a knitting machine.
See, you just need some drill sargenting and/or a motivational speech. Or just get yourself involved in something totally mind numbing and the yarn will call to you.

You are right. I finished the custom piece and am back to knitting away happily while watching TV :-)

Try knitting while doing something else, like watching movies. That seems to help me.

My friend just lent me some DVD boxsets for Nip/Tuck. I can really focus on my knitting during the icky operating scenes :-)

I go to the internet and look up all those knitting sites and yarn shops. It doesn't take long before I'm yearning to hold a pair of knitting needles again.

Good point. I am sucker for pretty pictures of yarn!

I do a quick knit - something small like a cat toy or a mini stocking. The almost instant gratification cheers me up and makes me feel mroe motivated to do more complicated projects, so that I'll get even more of the good feeling you get when looking at a completed project.

That's a good point. Knitting socks always gets me back into knitting because they are pretty quick and instantly useful. Not to mention all the fun you can have choosing just the right crazy color of sock yarn.

I think just like with anything else you need a brake. like me, i love to read. i can read 4 books a week. then there are times when i just don't want to see another word. i know i love to read, but sometimes i just need a brake. even from the thing i really love

I go to other knitters for motivation. If they are working on something really great, it can get me excited about knitting all over again.

I agree with friendthegirl; I get a lot more knitting done when I'm watching movies while I'm doing it. Seems to make the rows just fly off the needles! I usually get really excited about knitting when I go to a yarn shop and look at all of the beautiful yarns, or when I do things like read threads on knitting. It reminds me again how much I like it.

Yeah...I think a new and exciting yarn might be very motivating. The one I'm using right now is nice...but it lacks zaaz!
