Should the simpsons disappear into tv history?

I often feel that the simpsons has had it's day and should be put to rest as it is repeating it's usual brand of jokes and what was once good humour, gone are the days of laughing out loud at homers foolish antics and barts writings on the blackboard, of course I could be wrong, it's still on the air!

Eventually, it would disappear into TV history. For most people, the show's gags might start to feel repetitive but you have to take into account a new generation of viewers who are starting to appreciate the show's humor.

I love the Simpsons it would be absolutely devastating to lose it. It's been one of my favorate tv shows for years without it what will make us laugh. The Simpsons is American humor and they can't take that away. GRR.

I never thought i would catch myself saying this but you may be right. I love the Simpsons but the last series (or the last one on in the UK, i think we might be one series behind the US) was a bit boring, and less frequent in the laughs. There was still the odd stroke of genius, the episode when bart becomes a Catholic was one of the best ever but other tan that episode i don't really remember much (Other than the fact that Ricky Gervais' episode was crap).
I think they should relese the Movie and then just bring it to an end while its still relatively on top

I hope they will, but it is such an american show of modern tv history that it just might not be able to be put to rest yet, long running shows always start to repeat themselves, x-files was a good example of this! and when it finished I was even more cinfused with the main story arc, with black oil and bees?!

I know what you mean. It can be pretty bad to watch a show you once loved "jump the shark" as they say. the problem with The Simpsons is that it was so ground breaking for its time that it's really hard to hold it up to the same standards year after year. The Simpsons has had a historical run, especially for an animated show that no one had any real faith in. Remember when all those people compared it to the Cosby Show? Yes, it's been on for that long. Considering how important The Simpsons has been to American animated television, I too would rather see it go out with a bang, rather than weakly fade away.
The problem is that I am not sure if the show really has nothing left to offer. The past two episodes actually made me laugh, which is more than I can say the show has done in a long time. Do I think they can keep this up much longer? Not really. A lot of the jokes are sorta in jokes now based on years of history with the characters. For instance, would the casual view laugh when Smithers caught on fire and yelled to Mr. Burns "Put me out! I'm flaming"? I doubt it. I would be sad to see the show go, but I would rather see it push the boundaries again than continue to rely on it's own inside jokes. I just hope the writers will know when it's time to end it before things get really bad.

i don't think so.i like simpsons.they are funny to me.it may be repetitive sometimes.but it is better than any other program in tv.which is so bold and dramatic.watching simpsons is easy.you don't have to prepare yourself for really vulgar scenes.

The movie will more than likely make a huge percentage of merchandise profits and a few laughs for some people, but how long will this long running series go on for?
They do the same with comics, re hashing story ideas and gags, always trying to dress up something old to make it new, and I find it pointless, the best thing to do I reckon is to end it now and do one off specials that appear every now and again.

While I may not anxiously await the arrival of each new episode every Sunday evening, I do find myself excited when I catch an unseen rerun. They may be recycling old material, but I find myself less attentive to the main plots anyways...the subtle punchlines placed slightly outside the literal viewers' sight is always good for a LoL-funny moment. "Simpsons" rock!!

I dont think the Simpsons will be out of TV before another 10+ years. Just take a look at how long the Flintstones played, I still see some episodes of them.
Simpsons out of TV, not tomorrow.

I wouldn't say you are wrong, you are entitled to your view, but I have to say that I totally disagree :-) the Simpsons is one of the better shows on tv at the moment, and has been a good source of entertainment for many years. I personally think that the scripts are sometimes a bit weak, especially in the newer shows, there don't seem to be as many laugh out loud moments, especially if I compare the new episodes to the ones that Conan O'Brien used to be a part of. But then again that might just be my humour! I still tune in to the Simpsons almost every day. Keep it I say!

No No No No No! Definately not! It's the best TV show on air! I'm still laughing out loud at Homer and Bart's antics - specially Bart's prank calls to Moe's Bar they are class! I think it's time to admit it waynet - are you getting to old for it? LOL ;-)

No way man. Simspons are one of the best shows ever.
Every one says that the jokes are repetitive but the "doh's and mmm beeers" are not the point of the show.
The point is the humor in the storyline. If you really listen during the show, you'll realize there are a lot of "inside" jokes that you didn't hear before.
A lot of people say that family guy is better than the simpsons but if the simpsons dissapear, what is holding family guy from going away?
I say the simpsons should stay and i think in the future they will be considered a classic because our generation is not geared towards intelligent and productive things but more towards humor and just living the good life.
The simpsons portrays the people of the 21st cenury well and should not ever come of telivision. THey're already making a Simspons movie so how ironic would it be for a tv show to die out soon after they came out with their first full length movie (which i am definitely looking forward to)?
Simply, simpsons should stay.
