What do you do when you find a stray animal?

I have a very soft spot for animals. If I see one I get them to come to me and I see if they have ID tags. I do everything I can to find the owner. If they don't have one then I take them to the local shelter.
I have rescued dozens of dogs and that is how we got our cat.
One time I kept a dog for over a week for a man who worked out of town.

I have a soft spot for animals to. We live out in the country so alot of people dump there unwanted animals out here. We are always picking up animals, the Local shelter has left a cage out here with us so when we get one we just put the animal in there feed and water it until they can get out usually its the next day but on Friday's it's not till Monday's. I wish people would get punished for dumping animals but instead they go buy another and hopefully that one will be good enough. It really makes me sad these animals are very precious and they deserve to be treated better. Sorry I am ranting, we just picked up puppies the other day they were skin and bones and all I could do is cry. Keep up the good job.

I live in the country as well, so I know what you mean. Our cat was sick and bones, covered in fleas and ticks, and have very ill. He is doing much better now, but still has to take medication daily. He was taken from his mother too early so he will always have problems and he will never get very big.

I always call up animal shelter in my city to take them away and till then I do feed them and take care of them I do not like to keep pets because of the extra work you have to put in with them and I already run on tight schedulr. I don't wan to keep them with me and then regret later that I couldn't attend to them properly. My kids are enough for me to have that gulit feeling, lol. I do feed squirrels and birds on my terrace regularly and now they keep screeching at my bedroom window if I get late in putting out their food for them.

I will first look for ID tags. If I can, I'll catch them myself and then take photos. I'll post posters up within an hour. Incase they're microchipped, I would take a dog or cat to the shelter too just to check. Unfortunately, if I found a cat I'd have to leave it at the shelter because family members are allergic. If I found a dog, I could potentially find someone to watch it. And I've found a rabbit before and ended up keeping her. She's a sweetie.

If ever I see one, I will call a professional who can handle stray animals, especially if the animal is an exotic one. It’s not safe to handle such kind of animal if you have no idea about its behavior. Proper handling of such animals will avoid anybody of getting hurt.

I always feel that way, but I am afraid to take them in when I don't know much about them. Next time, I will just take them to a shelter if I get to run into one.
