How Does the Star Thing Work?

Hey guys, I was wondering how does this star business work? I mean for example, which one is higher, number nine or number ten. I thought that nine is heigher because as you get more popular you go upwards and the most popular person on mylot gets number 1. Is that right? or am I saying stupied things? Please let me know.

as far as i know, you get more ratings then your own rating goes up so you reach up to the maximum of 10. It means in theory that people appreciate your posts, that they like what you write and enjoyed your thoughts.
Also some friends use it among each other to provide more income to each other.
