I have been trying to walk an hour or so each day. Yesterday evening it was much too cold though so I rode my stationary bike instead.

I do get a lot of walking in. I don't have a car, so I have to walk to bus stops, the store, etc on an almost daily basis. And I work on a college campus and run back and forth across campus all day for meetings and events.
When I didn't have to walk as much to get where I needed to be, I used to schedule time 3-4 times a week to get outside and walk. You're right. It IS great for the heart, and for me it was also a tension reliever as well. I used to take my walkman and lose myself in music while I was walking, and come back to my desk recharged and ready to go.

Well, I walk for about half an hour a day during the working week, and maybe for an hour at the weekends. I walk to the metro station, and then I always get off one stop earlier than I need, and walk the rest of the way to work and back again at night. I like the resh air, and I couldn't be on here all the time, - it would drive me crazy! LOL!

You must know that in my country, the weather is very hot!
Imagine going through it every day going to school and going back from school.
Thou, I still like it because it helps me to excersise and throw out sweet(toxic) from the body. LOL

I used to do a lot of walking when I was younger and when I had my children I was always taking them to the park and we would spend all day there. I used to walk to and from work as the bus services wasn't reliable and that was well over an hours walk each day. I was much slimmer then! If anyone needed to lose weight or get fit then I think walking is an easy way to achieve this.

I walk on a tradmill 3 times a week for 20 mintues. I don't find time to go out to walk anymore. So, I do it when my daughter is taking her naps.

I definetly don't walk enough. My 64 year old Mom walks daily and she looks great. When I lost weight a few years back, I start by taking small walks. I even used to take the cell phone with me in case I went to far and had to phone my husband to come and get me.

Yes, I walk enough, more than enough I think. I work where I have to walk quite a long distance to reach there from the loading/unloading area. Our house is also quite far from the main avenue where I take or get out of the ride from where I work. I have no car so I have to walk. It's good not to have a car sometimes because we are forced to walk for our bodily exercise which you say is great for the heart. Thanks that I don't have a car LOL!

this is a good thread you have started. i definitely and one hundred one percent will agree to you that walking is good for the heart. i always say that when someone with me complains about walking when there's traffic already, i said "it's good for the heart".

The idea of walking a half to a full hour each day is now being promoted to be good for the heart. It will be better if one spends 10 minutes of it jogging. Another 10 minutes for a skipping rope or jumping jack. I believe that will make it sound much, much better. I do some crunches, too. Just a little of everything suits me fine.

No, i don't think i do. Unfortunately my job is just that bit too far away from my house for me to be able to walk it, so i have to get a lift in the car every morning. I love going for walks, but it's not always possible due to the terrible English weather! Also, becuase i live in a town, there's just not that many nice places to go for a walk, so me and my partner have to drive to the beach (only a 15 min drive away as we live on the coast) and then go for a walk there. The local parks aren't really that safe any more, i wouldn't go walking in them alone, even in the day time, there's too many yobs around! It's a shame really.

i do hill walking rather a lot. Where i live I really have little choice. I live in a valley in the west riding of yorkshire, uk. If i want to get anywhere its a steep walk uphill. I dont drive so i get used to it. Iestimate i walk at least 5 miles a day, the vast majority of which is up steep hills

I don't walk as much as I used to these days. Sometimes, I thought when the distance is more than 250 yards, I would rather drive than walking. lol
Maybe when those days come, then I would walk again. It's just that the weather here in the UK, makes me too reluctant to walk.

I didn't untill I started a new job last November. Now I am on my feet walking and lifting for 8 hours a day. My fitness level has improved and it is great even though the job is not.
