i think all stereotypes are wrong. but i really hate the ones about people with piercings and tattoos, and different coloured hair. just because they look different people think they are mean. some of the nicest people i know look like that and they'll do anything for even strangers.

Yes, I agree. They have to constantly prove that they are good people not evil because of the tattoo and piercings. It's a wonder society doesn't make them mean because of the constant sterotyping!

The stereotype that bothers me is that some people think that people who live in Hawaii live in a grass house, walk around in a grass skirt, and dance the hula. Luckily, I don't run into too many people who think that anymore. But I had several pen pals when I was growing up who really believed that.

There are so many!
That fat people are lazy and only eat twinkies and ho-ho's all day long.
That people with piercings and tattoos are trouble and unable to hold a corporate position.
That athletes are dumb and their coaches pass them along without requiring good grades.
That wrestlers are unhealthy and all of them do bad things in order to lose weight.
That all mexicans are illegal and freeloaders who aren't trying to better themselves.
That all Baptists are bible thumping holy rollers that shove their religion down your throat or tell you that you're going to hell.

Oh yes, how could we forget that fat people are lazy and only eat junk food. You have some good ones here. Isn't is sad that there are so many stereotypes!

Stereotypes don't bother me much UNLESS the person saying the stereotype really believs that ALL people are like that. I am from the south, but I do have all my teeth and I AM educated. LOL I laugh at stereotypes such as this, but when people start generalizing that stereotype and making ALL people of a certain class, race, gender, etc fit the criteria, then I have a problem.

That I must like R&B or Rap cause of my skin color. I do occassionally listen to some hip hop but my musical tastes usually fall under the Alternative genre (ie Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Social Distortion, The Clash, The Killers, etc).

Wow, that is a stereotype that I hadn't really thought about. How on Earth could we assume a person's musical preference by the color of their skin. Geeze....

The stereotype that bothers me the most is when people assume that pitbulls are out to rip people apart. Sure they have the potential to do it, but it's when they are raised as fighting dogs that they actually follow through and look for things to attack (because that's what they were taught). Everyone grows up reliving what they learn at home and the same goes with animals, it's a shame. It's so unfair that people take advantage of pitbulls and think that it's OK to train them into something vicious, as a pitbull/lab mix owner I know that these dogs can be great companions given proper training and living in proper conditions.

I destest when different races are sterotyped. I don't mean in a funny way either. I will pick on the Dutch since that's my heritage. How was copper wire invented? 2 Dutchmen fighting oover a penny. Now that is funny. Most Duthmen I know are frugal. But when the stereotype changes from funny to malicious, then I get my dander up.
I am not posting any examples, because I feel you all know what I mean. Besides it would be rude on my part to do so.

Gotcha Ally. I can think of a few races that are automatically sterotyped. Yes, I feel that is wrong too, to lump all memebers of a race together.

That once you are older you are useless. I Just started a new job, outof the 4 people that started with me, I am the oldest by at least 10 years.
I have no experience in the field, 2 of the other people do, one 8 years, one over 20 years. Yet in this orientation, I am able to contribute, I ask intelligent questions, I have challeged the instructors with the depth of my questions and I got a 98 on the first test.
I was originally told not to worry, that being older, it would be tougher for me to learn and catch on, but I would get it eventually.
Age is not a function of ability to learn.

The sterotype that i find most excruciating: I am smart, so i MUST be a geek. This couldnt be further from the truth..i really enjoy sports, watching AND playing. Just because i do well in school doesnt mean im a nerd.

Oh yes, for some reason students that are intellectually gifted are automatically assumed to be a geek. That happened even in the dark ages when I was in school! I remember too that students that participated in band were also automatically assumed to be geeks. Isn't it disgusting how we stereotype?

Let's just say they do bother me and I don't think I want to write them all down here. But, just the general ones about people's race, color of skin and color of hair.

I do not like if rich people think about poor people, that they are not smart.
Or when men think that they are smarter than the women. Yes, I think this last one is the most bothering.
