i am forty one years old and have had a difficukt life..i never enjoyed my younger years as i was unlucky and struggling..now i have reached a point in my life where i want some personal happiness too..i am fed up of always losing everything i have and being told i am too old to do things..like i want to get back into singing again..i don't expect to make a fortune..i would like to do it for myself..
am i too old to have a life?
or do i just dwindle in obsurity cos of my age?
do i give up just cos of pat failures..
just because i am not btitney spears or angelina jolie..does my life have to be mundane?
i like world music so the genre would not be pop music..
what do you think?
am i over the hill at forty?

No way! My Mom had 6 kids. She had my brother when she was 18. When I graduated from HS my Mom was turning 38. She went to night and by the time she was 40, she graduated and started working for Merrill Lynch. That was 21 years ago! We never had much growing up and but my Mom was always there for us. I think my Mom had a rough life. But in the past 21 years, she has traveled the world, secured a nice job and has enjoyed her life very much after 40. Enjoy yours...

well as they say.. life begins @ 40!. its never too late for you nor for anyone else.. as long as you are alive you have the right to do the things that you want to do with your life regardless of your age.. dont mind those people who tell you you are too old to do things because these people are not important and need not be important in your life. as long as your real friends and loved ones are there to support you then you can do whatever it is you want.. like singing!. do it because you want to do it!. id love to hear you singing.. maybe you can make a video and upload it in youtube and share the link with us.. yeah we are not celebrities but who said that normal people cant have a life?. GO yanjiaren!. Go and do the things that you want to do because it is your life and you deserve to be happy!. you can only live your life once so dont think about those people commenting about your age.. hey you have a life to live!. and its all there for you!. go and grab it.. dont lose hope!. we will never know unless you try!.
blessed be yanjiaren!.

Bless your heart. I just heard an inspirational story of a woman who turned 40 something. She realized she was unhappy. So she got divorced, took up tae kwan do, and spent the next year and a half of her life traveling around the world. Now she's about 51, in super fit shape from all those martial arts, and she just refused to believe she was too old to go after the life she wanted.
She rebuilt her life from the ground up and so can you! I'm 49 and I've never been more creative and more determined to go after my dreams. You just need to find you some mentors that are older than you and have inspiring life stories. You'll be fine.

When you think that you are over the hill, that is your begining of old age really.Never think that you are now over the hill as this feeling only tends you to make passive in life and you will not make many efforts further to go ahead.I am 56 years and still do not think so.

Oh please. My life has been just as difficult but you are certainly not over the hill when you've reached the big four O. In fact if you keep active and do the things you love (like your singing) you may discover that these things belong to you and you are never too old to od them.
Don't let anyone tell you you are too old to develop a new lifestyle if you really want that.
And if you ha ve a family and good friends who support you your life is never mundane.

I don't think you're over the hill at 40 far from it! You've got all of life's experience at that age! I think you should go for your dream cos if you don't then you will alway be thinking 'what if' Don't listen to what other people say do it for your self!

No,no,no and no! You're only old if you feel old and let yourself BE old. It's all in the mind set.I started my life over in another state after 'escaping' a horrid 12 year relationship,I was 45.I met my current husband a year later and we got married when I was 50.Now we're running our own business, have a new car and buying a new house.I have everything I ever wanted including a good man.So if you wanna sing,SING.Don't let anyone tell you you're too old, tell them they're narrow minded instead.May the rest of your life be happier than the first and all your dreams come true.;-)

Who has been telling you those big fat lies. Go for it. You know if you do not try, you WILL fail, but if you do try, you may in fact succeed, and wouldn't that be a joy! I am over fifty, and trying new things all of the time. I think when we get up to these ages we have more courage, and determination.

I'm 57, and getting happier year by year! I really didn't enjoy lots of things about being young, and it's only now that I'm rally letting go and being completely myself. Yes, and I'm just starting to do some of the things I've always wanted to do. I heard recently that if you take reasonable care of yourself, most women of my age can expect to live to 100+, and life expectancy is even longer if you are younger!
Tell you what - I don't like that saying that goes 'live each day as if its your last' -How depressing! I say live each day as if you are going to live to be 125 at least, and that way you've got enough time to start again from scratch several times. Didn't make the right choices first time round? Never mind, start again!

My goodness, you are not over the hill at all! And if you wish to pursue music, go for it!! I don't see anything wrong with doing it for yourself, at any age. I am going to be 32 in a couple of months and I have not yet even started to come into my own. I have been shy since birth, basically, and have been really quite isolated for the last.. well, a long time. I am just now starting to try to come out of my shell, and it may well take me until 40 to hit my stride and become the person that I want to be. So I sure hope that no one will be considering me over the hill at 40! Life may well begin at 40 for me, as well! ^_^

You can do whatever you put your mind to, regardless of your age. To be happy you have to look within yourself and find out what you'd like to do in life. Age is nothing but a number and you can do whatever you put your mind to no matter what age you are. Don't let your past or other people hold you down...just think of it as a stepping stone and you can move on from there. Open your heart to the things and people you'd like to surround yourself with. Visit new places and try new things. I'm sure you'll be able to be happy once you see past all of this. Good luck.

40 is not old, i am 42 and i feel young, i can do things that young peeps do,
i play like a kid, i dress like a teen ager, and i think like young ones too.
age is only in the mind, just think positively, mingle with people who are good,
have friends and enjoy life.. do not forget, life begins at 40 and so startour life now..
be happy..

I don't think anyone is ever to old to do the things that they want or to accomplish life goals or dreams. I trully believe that after you have reached 30 this is when your life really begins. The majority of mistakes are over and you are walking forward with a better head about you than in you teens and 20's. Don't ever think you are to old to accomplish things. Age is just a number.

Forty is definately not over the hill. You are as young as you let yourself be. That being said age does restrict us to some things. When it comes to performing I have this advice. Lots of people think they can sing when in fact they cannot. All you have to do is watch that Idol show. Now, let
s say you are a good singer and want to pursue that. I would suggest a music or singing teacher. Be careful, if a teacher only gives you praise they just want your money. As an artist I personally have dabble in several art forms and art instructors are all the same. Well, at least good ones. A good teacher will want you to be good as this reflects on them. Typically, they are harsh and believe the time you are paying for is being under paid. Don't take this stance personal, every student gets the same treatment. Above all stay true to yourself and work towards your goals.

Use your 40's as the start of your "real" life! I honestly wouldn't want to go back and be 20 again-- I was so naive back then. I feel great in my early 40's! I know so much more about life and I look better than I did when I was younger. I think as an older singer you won't be known as a "pop tart" and instead will be respected for your maturity. Don't let age deter you from fulfilling your dreams!!

I hope its just starting. I am 40 and feel pretty much the same way. I find myself wondering what the hell happened to the time. I feel like my body may be dwindling, but my mind is better than ever, so, I look forward to the next 40 years being even better. I hope you do too.
