Kitty Litter - to clump or not to clump?

I've had a running argument for a few years with my husband that non-clumping kitty litter is bad for cats. They have it stick to their paws and track it and whatever waste they came out of the box with them. Now he contends clumping litter is bad because if they have wet bottoms or paws it sticks to them and its a mess to comb off or dig it out. What do you use/prefer and why?

I am not certain if one type is better or worse for them. But I myself use the clumping kind. For one I think it is easier to clean up after. And two, my cat won't use the nonclumping kind. If the husband accidentally picks up the wrong stuff, she will get in the litter box, make some hideous noises and promptly potty on the floor. SO, we try to avoid the non clumping at all costs.

Glad to know that mine isn't the only "picky pottier" out there. I thought maybe she was just displaying her sweet disposition. LOL

Hi there...clumpable litters are bad for cats because if accidentally ingested from when a cat grooms themselves the litter solidifies in the intestinal tract causing blockage and fatality. There has been some recent discussions about the safety of clay litters also solidifying when accidentally ingested as well, however it isn't as nearly as lethal as the clumpable litters. There are many new litters that are not only evironmentally friendly, but less likely to cause intestinal blockages, allergic reactions for example and are flushable so they won't clog septic systems. These litters are:

We used to use Swheat Scoop before both the cats have learned to use the human toilet so now we no longer need to use cat litter.

I use the clumping kind, it is easier to clean out of the litter box thus they have cleaner litter on a regular basis.
