Ok, in the past I've been pretty nice about it I think, but I just don't have time anymore. If you are currently on my friends list and I catch you posting something you copied from another site that clearly isn't your own writing, you WILL be reported and promptly deleted. I am no longer sending out nice little messages to tell you that you're caught and not to do it again. This is that message. Anybody else with me?

I to have come across people that have copied work, it really upsets me as I am one of those that puts a lot of though and time in to writing, even though I have just started on this site it is unfare to others.
So I 100% support you and can understand why you may be a little upset as well.

I just get so annoyed at people who don't seem to think the rules apply to them. For instance, I had one person who took part in a discussion about this very subject (copyright and why you shouldn't copy and paste) and then proceeded to post a news article they stole from somewhere else. When I called them on it, they said "sorry, I won't do it again."

I am definitely with you on this and am glad that you and the other good and honest members are helping with reporting people that are cheating and stealing other peoples words. myLot needs our help with preventing people from doing this so I am with you and glad that you will be taking action. :-)

I come up with original posts for one because it is in the rules to do so because it's wrong to use someone else's words, and two, I just like discussing these topics. i think it's fun, but it's not the highlight of my day. I think if people are really that disturbed about others doing this, just report them, and go about your business. Don't let it upset you this much. We don't get paid enough on here to be that serious about rule breakers.

Well I must say you have been much more lienient than I have ...I never send nice little notes I just report them ... I think the way you have been handling is very good ... I might even try that myself ..but my friends haven't been doing that just other people ... I have found to be more so the newer people ...but we all need to watch ... new or old everyone should know the rules and abide by them ...

Yeah, I don't like to just report because I don't know if the person has read the rules or not. It's taking up too much of my time though to notify each person that does this, so I simply can't keep doing it that way. Really, I think each of us are responsible for reading the guidelines and adhering to them anyway, so I guess I don't need to send the notes anyway.

I think copying from anywhere without giving original credit is BAD and WRONG. Copyright is inherent. That means if you wrote it, you own the copyright without any other say so. Sources should always be cited. When I get something in email or see it online, I always say so and if I know the name I give it.

I think that anything that is written is technically "copyrighted" as soon as it has written. Sometimes proving it is more complicated, but the first person to write it, owns the copyright. A person should, of course, always cite the original source.

Hay, thats very good. I am 100% in favour with you. I also have seen people copying other's posts. I found a person who has posted the same post which I posted some time back. I just kept quiet. But I know I shouldnt. In future, I would also follow you and take some action. Have a nice day.

Wow! You did the nice guy thing? Why? LOL
Sorry, but if I see a person copy and paste, I don't care who you are, I am reporting that person.
I am not going to be nice and send a message so that person can sit there and get mad and rate me badly...I am working hard to be sure that I put my own words that are quality responses! There is no way I am going to let a person cheat and not report it.
If that person is cheating, I don't think that person should be paid for that discussion. Period. And if myLot decides to ban the person, well, that person did it to him or herself by cheating. Not my fault...I didn't tell that person to cheat and I know that person knew better than to copy and paste.
myLot states in the guidelines that we should report abusers...and after being here for some time and seeing the abuse, I got fed up and started reporting.
So, yup, I'm with ya!

Oh, I HATE when people copy and paste big long things into discussions. Whether or not they're my own. They don't answer the question and sometimes don't even have anything to do with the topic of discussion. I think I'm gonna start reporting them, too. I admit that I copied and pasted something tonight, but I also explained that I did and gave the site credit. Plus, it helped to answer the question (because I didn't know the answer, myself). I think THAT'S ok, but... who knows? What do you think?

Oh, I didn't mean for it to seem like the length was an issue, but I just meant to say that I also hate when people copy and paste articles as simply a response and that's it. They don't say anything else.

Firstly, writing long discussions is not against the rules in any way, in fact it's encouraged. My issue is not with the length of the posts, it's the fact that they have stolen someone else's work and posted it as if it is their own.
The correct way to do it would have been to simply post the link and tell people what to look for there. If you want to quote a line or two, as long as you are giving credit and linking, that is usually not an issue. Copying and pasting an entire article is never ok.

it sure would be nice if everyone followed the rules and didn't try to cheat the system.Honestly though if you are on my friends list or not and you decide that you want to post comments that you took from another website not only will I report you lol but you probably will have huge negative amounts of karma for being like that :p

Well, I'm new here in myLot and I happen to post a new discussion with the title similar to the one previously posted. I was very surprised when I saw it. For a newcomer like me, I didn't intentionally copied the same title post. But at least I learned to check tru the post first before opening one.

Yeah, I think that happens to us all from time to time. What I'm talking about here though is the people who deliberately copy text directly from another source and post it here as if they had written it. As long as you are writing your own discussions, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hi, I'm a new member here and it's highly appropriate for me that you've started this discussion because I was brought to this site by an alert that someone had cut and paste something from my website. I have an e-shop selling retro/vintage ceramics and glass and I've written and researched all the content on my site - where I've had help I've acknowledged those sources. I am constantly finding text and photographs lifted from my site and used on various places from eBay to blogs even on other selling sites and now, it appears, on here. It's an outrageous liberty and, as you quite rightly point out, a breach of my copyright. The plagiarised post that brought me here was 5 paragraphs of information cut and paste without my knowledge or agreement. The problem here is in educating people that just because a photograph or some written words are available on the internet they're NOT available to be copied and re-used without the copyright owner's permission - how on earth we go about educating everyone I haven't a clue but, like you, whenever I see plagiarism I will front that person and let them know what they've done is wrong. Quite often they don't realise until I point it out that they were doing anything wrong and I can forgive those people (the first time only!). However, there are plenty of people doing this who are fully aware it's wrong but will do it anyway - not only are they immoral thieves but they must also be pretty unimaginative and stupid. Grrrrr I'm with you 100% - plagiarists can bog off!

What a nightmare! I've been lucky enough to not find anything I've ever written plagiarized, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened. I would be more than a bit upset if I DID find someone stealing my work though! I know for every one person I report, there are probably 500 others I didn't see or didn't recognize, but I figure if enough of us work together, maybe we can really make a difference here. As for someone not knowing that what they've done is wrong, here on myLot they have NO excuse. It's in the guidelines of the site that you can only link to info you haven't written -- never copy and paste it.

Thanks very much! I've got absolutely boxfuls of amazing things not even photographed yet - I'm a slow worker (easily distracted by message boards!) I'll probably get hooked on this place now I've found it ...
By the way, how do I go about reporting people for plagiarism if I see it? As you can see I'm new here and still finding my way around.

I am with you.
if somebody just copy and paste, I think he is only want the money, not the discussion, just report him, no matter who he is, its unfair to most honest members here if he gets paid by doing this.
Have a good day.

Hi BunGirl
You are not currently on my friends list, but I DEFINATELY agree with what you have to say.
I am "Wheedling" my list out as well!!
I hate it when the other members do that!
We have managed to get rid of lots of the "Cheaters" so far by being a "team" on mylot.com
I think this is an excellent idea of yours!

i rated this discussion positive because i am with you on this 100%. it is against mylot rules to copy and paste someone else's work without proper attribution. and just like you i also put on a lot of effort into my writings and it's unfair to us if others will just copy and paste other people's work. go girl.

I hardley ever start new discussions. I have ran across several that I swore I have seen somewhere before. I think its wrong especially to those that put real time and effort into the work that they put in here. I'm glad your finally standing up and doing something. I hope this gets the point across to everyone and if I see anything that seems fishy I will be sure to report it as well.
P.S. I will consider myself warned.
